Horary Astrology: Free Horary Reading – “Moscow or Bogotá?”
July 7, 2007 by admin
Horary Question:
How good is for me to move from Bogota, Colombia to Moscow, Russia and establish my home there? I’m unhappy where I was born and live now. The professional prospects seem good but I don’t feel part of the community. Also I don’t find it atractive or interesting.
—M.
Nina Gryphon:
Dear M.,
Thank you for writing to me; I find horary to be very helpful in helping people decide whether to move. Though, often, the answer is: “It doesn’t matter a whole lot.” But let’s see what your horoscope says. I cast the horoscope for the moment that I understood your question, which is a method known as horary astrology. The horary chart for your question is below:
In this horary chart, the place where you currently live is represented by Mercury, ruler of the first house. Moscow, as the prospective home, is shown by Jupiter. Now Mercury is weak by sign, as it is in Cancer, and it is retrograde as well. However, it is angular, and in your house of career, so you are right, job opportunities may be better, though it’s far from ideal.
Moscow is not without its problems, but, on the whole, it looks better than Bogotá. Jupiter is in Sagittarius, so it’s in its own sign, and it is on the cusp of the fourth house, so there is a sense that Moscow could feel like home for you. Seeing it on the cusp of the fourth made me wonder if you have some ancestors or relatives from there. In any case, even though Jupiter is not as well-positioned, it is still inherently stronger than Mercury, so that is one argument for moving to Moscow. The fact that Jupiter is in a double sign suggests that you may do well splitting your time between the two places (perhaps going to Colombia in winter?).
I also like to look at the Moon in these situations. We see that it has just separated from a square to the Sun, which is not particularly strong by sign, due to its location in Cancer. With the Sun ruling your 12th house, I wonder if you have decided to make a clean break with the past for some reason.
The Moon next applies to a sextile with the Part of Fortune, which seems very positive, and argues for moving to Moscow.
To sum up, I believe that moving to Moscow would be somewhat better for you. The chart is not overwhelmingly positive in that direction, but there is enough difference between the two options that Moscow comes out ahead by a good margin. Whatever you do, good luck, and don’t forget to write!

Free Astrology Advice: Horary Astrology – Divine Call to Move to Europe
February 2, 2007 by admin
Horary Question:
What is the time frame on my move to the Czech Republic? Over a year ago I began to feel led to move to another country permanently (I feel the call to missions work but not in the ordinary sense). I won’t be building churches, or anything along those lines. I feel the call is to be an everyday Christian living out a Spirit filled life in another country. Living by example, if you will.
In October of 2006 I felt The Lord told me the location would be the Czech Republic and it would be several years until this happened. My husband hasn’t “heard” the call…yet. Which has me concerned. I originally thought 7-9 years, kids in school, husband can retire in about 9 years and such. But I keep having this feeling things may be sooner…much sooner, like 4-5 years.
My other scary thought has been that during all this I haven’t felt like my husband would be moving with me. Not sure how that plays into things.
—S.
Nina Gryphon:
Dear S.,
That is probably the most fascinating question I have heard recently. We have to take it in two pieces, and first see whether you will be moving to the Czech Republic after all, and if so, then when will it be. We can also take a look at how your husband views the situation, and whether he is likely to go with you.
I cast a horoscope for the moment I understood your question, using a method known as horary astrology. The horoscope for your question is below:
The first thing I notice is that the Moon is void of course, meaning it will not make any more aspects in its current sign. Barring stronger testimony, this can mean that nothing will happen in your situation. However, I believe that there are strong signs in this chart showing that you will be moving to the Czech Republic, and that on a more accelerated schedule.
The Czech Republic is shown as Jupiter, which rules the ninth house of foreign countries. There are times when we would look at the seventh house as “there,” but the religious vocation aspect of your question leads me to the ninth house, which also rules religion and pilgrimages. This is no ordinary move. You are shown by Mars in Capricorn, exalted and in the 10th house; combined with the strong Moon in Cancer, I’m inclined to believe that your divine call to move is sound and real. Mars is going to conjoin the antiscion of Jupiter at 16.3° Capricorn, so in about five somethings. As you stated, this will most likely be five years. So to answer the first part of your question, yes, you will be moving to the Czech Republic sooner than originally anticipated.
Now let’s see how your husband feels. He is shown by Venus in its exaltation in Pisces, in the sign of Jupiter. He doesn’t seem against the idea at all, but as you said, I am not certain that he will move there with you. I do not see his planet contacting Jupiter. Perhaps he will have to finish out his employment before he can join you.
So much for the astrology of your question. Before I go on, I should mention that I’m very great believer in signs and omens. There are times when the voice of God is unmistakable, in my opinion. I find it fascinating that you should contact me, without knowing in advance that I spent much of my childhood in the Czech Republic with most of my family hailing from there. This, in itself, seems like a very strong sign that you should go and that you will go. In terms of practical advice, I think you’ll find that many people there are quite devout, whether Protestant or Catholic, and I highly advise that you get to know people and not keep to yourself when you’re there. This should make you feel comfortable and at home in no time.

Free Astrology Advice – Horary Astrology: Should We Relocate?
September 23, 2006 by admin
Question:
My husband and I are seriously thinking about relocating to another state, where my family is. We are also seriously low on money. He lost his job last year and has been working as a contractor doing home repairs and remodeling. We are holding it together, but just barely.
My brother and his wife have been taking care of my elderly mother and my sister (who doesn’t drive), but he may be transferred to another state next year. Either he will have to uproot my mom and sister and take them with him, or my husband and I can go there and the four of us can move in together (the only way we could afford to do it), Since their house is too small for all of us, we’ll all have to sell our houses and find one bigger – and we need some acreage.
I’m terrified. Not only are the logistics of this overwhelming me, but I will have to find another job – and I’m 57 years old. My steady income has definitely helped keep us afloat and I’m not sure how good a job I can get, going into a new town and being in a field dominated by people half my age.
So my question is this. Should we make the move? Are we biting off more than we can chew? If things go wrong and we go down, we’ll take my sister and mother with us. On the other hand, it could be the answer we all need.
—P.
Nina Gryphon:
Dear P.,
These tough dilemmas never present a clear-cut answer – if it was obvious which course of action was right, you would not have to ask the question in the first place. The horoscopes for these types of questions reflect the situation and will often given both pro and con testimony. The challenge is to tease out what the advantages and disadvantages would be and the relative merits of staying or moving. The answer is often “it doesn’t matter which option you choose,” or the pro/con testimony is very finely balanced indeed.
Below is the horary chart I cast for the moment I understood your question:
We must first see what is going on with the 1st house ruler (you). You are ruled by Mercury, which is in Virgo, the sign of its domicile and exaltation. So Mercury is pretty good where it is. We do notice that it has recently conjoined the malefic South Node, which most likely refers to your recent financial strains. The good news, of course, is that the worst is past.
In this kinds of questions, we will often find the person’s significator on the verge of changing signs. This reflects the situation at hand: the person is about to move into a new place (sign). So the current sign shows “here” and the upcoming sign shows “there.” Here, Mercury will shortly move into Libra out of Virgo. Mercury is a lot happier here in Virgo than in Libra, where it has little essential strength. More than that, shortly after entering Libra, Mercury will conjoin a highly unpleasant Mars in Libra (the sign of Mars’s detriment), which may well symbolize your husband’s difficult money situation being exacerbated in this new area and afflicting your own well-being. It may be that you may be forced to rely on his earnings in the new location, but the earnings will not be good. Mars rules the 8th house of the spouse’s money. So far, the testimony skews pretty strongly toward staying put.
We can also look at the 1st house as “here,” and the 7th house as “there.” The 1st house is afflicted by the presence of the South Node (and of course, the 7th house is blessed by the presence of the benefic North Node), which normally would argue for moving. However, as I said above, you have already experienced the difficulty of the South Node in the past, so its power to afflict you is largely moot. The 1st house ruler, as simply showing “here,” is this strong Mercury. The 7th house ruler, showing “there,” is a peregrine and cadent Jupiter, which is not strong either by sign, or by house placement. Again, this shows a pretty strong testimony for staying. OVerall, I would have to recommend that you stay where you are. The worst is behind you and the options for moving are not appealing.
Astrology Advice: Will I Sell My House This Year? Buy a New One?
September 9, 2006 by admin
Question:
After 9 years of marriage, I fell in love with a man who later ruined my life. With him I have a house which we bought together, and is up for sale for the last 4 years! He lives in the house while I fled from it, a place once, for a short while, was my piece of paradise on earth. I am 50 years old, and I moved 17 times in my life, not to count the country. In the last 3 years I got close to new female friends, who are wealthy and buy apartments like they were new stockings. They were the ones who put the wish in my head to own something too. And now I am on my way – maybe – to do so. I have no money at all, my friend ruined me, I only have half of the house, which won’t sell. Will I sell the house this year, and should I venture to buy an apartment as an investment?
—G.
Nina Gryphon:
Dear G.,
That is a tough situation in which to find yourself; having friends who can afford the kind of real estate you can only dream about. And on top of that, having some real estate you’d wish you could sell right away! It sounds pretty frustrating.
For your kind of question, a horary chart (from the Greek: “of the hour”) is most suitable, and it is the horoscope cast for the moment I received your question. The answer lies within the horoscope cast for the question.
The chart does not look terribly promising for selling your house this year. You are symbolized by Mercury, ruler of the 1st house, and potential buyers by Jupiter, lord of the 7th. The two are not coming to an aspect, showing that there probably will not be an agreement this year. Similarly, the Moon is Void of Course, which means that it is not going to make any aspects before leaving its current sign of Pisces. Void of Course means “no action in the time frame of the question” if other testimonies concur. Combined with the lack of an aspect between Mercury and Jupiter, the odds are not in your favor. However, there is one redeeming feature here, which is that the Moon (your co-significator along with Mercury) is about to conjoin the Arabian Part of Fortune at 28 Pisces. This shows that there may be a small chance someone will buy the house this year. But I would not bet on this, especially if you are hoping to use the money from the sale of the house to finance your apartment purchase.
Let us take a look at the proposed apartment investment. Your money is signified by Venus, ruler of the second house of finances. Venus recently moved into Virgo, the sign of its fall, indicating that your money is not in great shape, just as you mention. That would make us a little hesistant to recommend making a major purchase such as an apartment. Too, Mercury, ruler of the 1st house, about to conjoin the malefic South Node speaks against changing the situation as it currently stands. When we have a “should I or shouldn’t I” question, we look at where the planet is going as the prospective change. Since Mercury is in a good place right now (in its rulership and exaltation in Virgo), but will shortly meet with the South Node, this says strongly “stay where you are.”

Horary of the Week: Will My Friend Go to England?
May 28, 2006 by admin
Email your horary questions to nina “at” gryphonastrology.com by Friday to be published on Sunday.
Question: “Will my friend move to England?”
Background: A friend has been thinking to moving from the U.S. to England to be with her boyfriend. This would be obviously a big change for her, though she had lived abroad before, and she is more than adequately prepared to handle it. When she emailed me, she was trying to decide whether to go or not. Her mother in particular was against it at the time, and it looked as though my friend might not go because of the opposition from her mom. I felt she should go as it would help broaden her horizons.
Short Answer: Yes, she will go to England, though perhaps she will regret it or simply might return at some point.
Astrology:
1. My friend is signified by Saturn (Lord 11 of friends) in Leo, in her turned 7th house. Obviously, she is very much in love with her boyfriend (7th house), and this is her primary motivation for going overseas. Saturn, however, is retrograde, which might signify return. Let’s see how the rest of the chart looks.
2. She would be making a long journey to a foreign country. So we would look to the 9th house. But do we look at the turned 9th house or radical 9th? John Frawley suggests that the bigger and more impersonal the object, the less likely we are to turn; turning the chart suggests the object somehow belongs to the person. Here, England does not belong to my friend, but her journey to England is hers alone. I realize reasonable people can differ on this one, but I chose the turned 9th, which is the radical 7th house.
The ruler of the 9th house is Venus. To determine whether my friend will make her journey, we need to find an aspect between Saturn and Venus. And we’ve got one; Venus applies to an opposition to Saturn in 2 degrees. So my friend will indeed go to England, though oppositions bring regret or a breaking apart, so perhaps she will not stay there.
Follow-up:My friend did indeed leave for England, one month after I asked the question.Whether she will stay there or not, only time will tell.
