Mercury will enter the fiery sign of Leo on Saturday, July 26, thereby entering combustion. This is a harmful state where a planet is a little too close to the Sun (about 8.5 degrees on either side), and is afflicted by the Sun’s extreme heat. Mercury will stay combust until about August 6th. Read on for the best ways to use Mercury in Leo.

Half-Voiced Mercury in Leo

Leo is one of the half-voiced signs; halfway between being fully vocal and totally mute. It is therefore not the best sign for Mercury, who loves to vocalize and communicate. Also, Mercury tends to not do as well in the bestial signs, of which Leo is one. Mercury brings the gifts unique to humanity: speech, commerce, reading and writing, etc. Being in an animal sign is not exactly his best location, nor being in a fixed sign like Leo. Mercury likes movement and action, and the fixed signs are a little too staid for his fluid nature.

That said, Mercury in Leo is a pretty good placement: half a voice is better than none for Mercury, whose normally smooth speech may change to growls or purrs in Leo. While it is not Mercury’s finest moment, it is still a sign where Mercury can express itself reasonably well. Also, the “bound” or part of the sign, 11 Leo to 17 Leo, is ruled by Mercury, so there is some affinity between this cold and dry planet and Leo, the hot and dry sign! At least they share one quality, that of dryness.

This brings us to an important observation of Mercury in Leo. This is not the most emotional placement. It does not mean that a Mercury in Leo native has no empathy; it just will not come from this planet-sign combination. The dry quality gives a lack of sentiment – an overabundance of moisture increases it. Mercury is not a touchy-feely planet. It is the rational, organizational part of ourselves that is not naturally at ease with feelings. The heat of Leo might give passion or enthusiasm, sometimes mistaken for emotion, but the inward, receptive soul of the native will not be touched when he expresses passion.

Mercury in Leo Secrets

Combustion essentially hides a planet from view in the rays of the Sun. Mercury in Leo, combust, is thus doubly heated – once from the Sun and once from its sign. The combination gives us secret and heated communications, which are none too eloquent, but drive their point home. One growl from the lion is unmistakable in its import. If you wish to talk to someone secretly, or to do something hidden, now through August 6th may be the best time to do so. This is especially true if Mercury rules your horoscope.

Planets in Your Horoscope: Venus in Leo on June 5, 2007

venusverticordia Planets in Your Horoscope: Venus in Leo on June 5, 2007

Venus enters the sign of Leo on June 5. Venus has little strength in Leo, and it is Peregrine for most of the sign. The hot, dry, and barren nature of Leo is rather inimical to Venus, which thrives in a more hospitable and fertile environment, such as Pisces, Libra, and Taurus. Of course, Venus will spend a lot of time in Leo this year, because shortly after its entry into the next sign, Virgo, it will turn retrograde, slowly make its way through Leo, and will finally leave Leo on October 8.

Electional Astrology Advice

Venus’s extended passage through Leo puts many people in a bind this summer, because the planet’s weakness comes at the height of wedding season. I heard that July 7 of this year is a very popular wedding date, and has had venues booked for several years in advance. If the people who insist on getting married on 7/7/07 knew that Venus on that date was peregrine, slow in motion (about to turn retrograde), conjunct Saturn in Leo, and about to enter its fall in Virgo, I imagine they would be somewhat less enthusiastic. It is true that a wedding electional chart does not live or die only by the position of Venus, but there really are much better dates to get married this year.

So where does this leave you, if you want to do something Venusian, like get married, or ask someone out on a date while you are still young? First, make your move before Venus enters Virgo, where it is in its fall. This happens on July 15. Venus in Leo is not great, but Venus in Virgo is downright bad. Second, definitely try to act before the last week of June, if at all possible, because then Venus will apply to conjoin our nasty Saturn in Leo. This is certainly not something you need either in your marriage, or even on a date.

Astrological Predictions for 2007: Saturn’s Effects on Leo, Virgo, Aquarius, and Pisces

oldmanreading Astrological Predictions for 2007: Saturns Effects on Leo, Virgo, Aquarius, and Pisces

As any reader of this blog knows, I am not fond of Sun sign or transit predictions. Usually, they are pretty generic, simply because the rest of the complex factors in the horoscope are not taken into account. Give me a good progressed chart or solar return over transits any day. But even I cannot deny that the transits of Saturn are always felt, if not in actual events, they do set an oppressive or dark mood.

This year, Saturn will cover the range between 18° Leo through 8° Virgo. If you have any important planets or points in this range, you will likely feel Saturn, which of course, is the most oppressive, and generally unpleasant planet. If you know your horoscope pretty well, you will know if your ascendant or midheaven is in the above range of degrees.

If you were born between approximately August 12 and September 1 (plus or minus a day on either end), Saturn will be conjoining your Sun this year. Hurray. This is considered the least pleasant transit of all, simply because the Sun is such an important part of us — it represents our physical vitality, our standing in society, plus any meanings it acquires by its location in or rulership of a house.

If you were born between February 12 and March 1 (again plus or minus a day on either end), Saturn will be opposing your Sun. This is also unpleasant, because there is a sense here that you’re fighting Saturn; whether he is incarnate as a literal bad guy whom you’re battling, or simply faulty wiring in your house. Of course, Saturn always wins — this doesn’t mean that you will lose your battle against said bad guy or wiring, just that you will have to earn every success you do get, probably many times over.

However, I would hasten to add that Saturn is only going to do its nasty bit on you if your progressions, solar returns, and other methods indicate this as well. Transits are pretty much at the bottom of the celestial pecking order. As a result, they cannot do a thing to you unless more important indicators give them the nod.

Finally, remember that Saturn itself does not cause anything to happen. Rather, he just indicates that we have been remiss in something in our lives. If you haven’t been brushing your teeth, Saturn’s transits indicate cavities. It’s not Saturn that gave you cavities; you did. Saturn just indicates when the karmic bill comes due.

Astrological Predictions for 2007 – Saturn in Leo/Saturn in Virgo

January 4, 2007 by

phaeton saturn four seasons Astrological Predictions for 2007 – Saturn in Leo/Saturn in Virgo

Saturn will move into Virgo on September 3, 2007.

For the last two years or so, the slowest and heaviest planet, Saturn, has been passing through the sign of Leo. In Leo, Saturn is very weak — it is in the sign of its detriment. This is because Saturn rules the opposite sign, Aquarius, so in Leo, Saturn is exactly at the opposite end from its home.

Saturn is not an easy planet to deal with at any time. Even people who have a strong natal Saturn in Capricorn, Aquarius, or Libra (signs where Saturn is very strong), are always complaining about how unpleasant Saturn can be. And this is Saturn when he is happy! So you can imagine just how unpleasant Saturn is when it is in an inhospitable sign like Leo.

Why is Saturn so unhappy in Leo? Leo is a hot, dry and barren sign. These qualities are inimical to Saturn, which is considered moist, and above all else, very cold. Putting Saturn in Leo is sort of like dropping an ice cube into a roaring fire — the ice cube will not do too well. Also, Leo is a fixed sign, creating a fire that is very difficult to put out, as it is lasting. So Saturn is extremely uncomfortable in the sign of Leo.

What does this mean for you? If Saturn rules any important houses in your chart, you’ll find that undertaking projects involving matter is ruled by those houses will be a lot easier once Saturn exits Leo and moves into Virgo in September. As an example, if Saturn rules your 10th house of career, and you wish to look for a new job, starting in September would be more productive than starting now.

Saturn will station at 8° Virgo on December 19th, 2007.

However, Saturn will turn retrograde in Virgo in December, so using the above example, you may want to start your job search well before the retrograde date. No planet is happy when it is retrograde, as it is moving backwards.
