Free Astrology Advice: Horary Astrology – Will My Career Recover?
June 4, 2007 by admin
Horary Question:
I had risen from the ranks over a period of 25 years to the top of my chosen selling career in the pharmaceutical industry. But suddenly in 2001, I hit a snag in my upward journey and after a couple of false starts I fell flat and to the bottom from where I have still not recovered.
I was so secure during my career that I did not bother to save for my retirement. Now I find that not only that I have been dumped to the lowest rung in my career but also am not making enough to make ends meet.
Will I shine again and make any progress in my career?
–G.
Nina Gryphon:
Dear G.,
Thank you for writing to me. I cast the horoscope for the moment that I understood your question, which is a method known as horary astrology. The horary chart for your question is below:
First, we can see that you are in a difficult emotional state; the Moon, which symbolizes your emotions, has just entered Capricorn, the sign of its detriment. So you’re not doing well, and feel rather discouraged. The major part of the problem, as you say, is that you are disappointed with your earnings. The Sun, your significator, is in the 11th house of your wages, so this is obviously a major concern for you. The Sun is Peregrine at 11° Gemini, meaning it has no strength in that part of the zodiac. So you are at once unhappy, and consumed with thoughts of your finances.
This is understandable, as your finances don’t look that good. Mercury, which signifies your wages, is slow in motion, and also Peregrine. It is also about to enter the malefic 12th house. So you are having a really difficult time getting money to come to you; the work is hard, with little reward for a lot of effort.
The difficulty here is that we do not see Mercury getting stronger in the near future, which would indicate an improvement in your wages. Instead, you may well decide that this particular avenue is not worth pursuing. We see that the Moon will oppose Mercury, which shows regret or rejection. However, you are going to get some kind of career-boosting opportunity in the near future. This is indicated by Mars, significator of your job, trine a very strong Jupiter in the fifth house.
Now, Jupiter rules the fifth house of creative works, and also the ninth house of higher learning, long journeys, and learned/religious people. So for example, if you get some kind of job offer abroad, or get a chance to enter partnership with a physician, for example (a doctor is a good example of a ninth house type of person), take it. This will be some avenue that will change your career for the better, though you may not recognize it as such right away.
So in short, I do not see your finances improving in the near future, but there will be a chance to improve your career, which will presumably lead to better earnings in the future.

Free Astrology Advice: Horary Astrology – Should I Change Jobs?
May 30, 2007 by admin
Horary Question:
I have been working as a freelance translator for four years, but things have slowed down dramatically since the last couple of months. No clients, insecurity and financial difficulties, etc.
Moreover, I am restless and dissatisfied with this job. I would like to do something else but I cannot imagine another activity which could give me the freedom I need.
The only job I am thinking about is astrology. I have begun formal training this year and I wonder if I should make the first move and organize some consultations.
—M.
Nina Gryphon:
Dear M.,
Thank you for writing to me. I cast a horary chart for the moment that I understood your question, and the drawing of that horoscope is below:
We see that you are represented by Mercury, ruler of the first house of self. Mercury also rules the midheaven, which is the house of work. This is very appropriate, because you are self-employed, so in a sense, you and the job are one. So whatever happens to you, also happens to your job. We see that Mercury has recently changed signs, and has exited its own sign of Gemini, in order to enter the sign of Cancer. Whenever we get a horary question about a prospective change, we look at which position was better; the previous one or the current one. In this case, there’s no question that your old job, that is being a translator, was considerably better for you than being an astrologer. Mercury is very strong in Gemini, but in Cancer, it is Peregrine, meaning it has no essential dignity or strength. The fact that Mercury is slowing down in motion gives us yet another indicator that you are going to run into trouble if you leave your old occupation. As Mercury has already changed signs, this tells me that you might be asking me the question after the fact, at least after you have already made up your mind to become an astrologer.
However, we also need to look at the Moon, which is your co-significator. The Moon is very weak; it is in a cadent house, and it is in the sign of its detriment, Scorpio. The Moon is about to leave the region known as the Via Combusta, or the fiery road, which indicates that a period of emotional disturbance is coming to an end. Since Mars rules the eighth house of your clients’ money, we see that this emotional disturbance was connected with clients’ money not coming to you. As time goes on, I think you will find that your misgivings about your old job were somewhat exaggerated or overly emotional.
We also see that the Moon will next square Saturn in Leo, which is particularly malefic, as it is in the sign of its detriment. So the overall feeling in this horoscope is that hanging up your old job would lead to trouble. Personally, I do not see anything wrong with doing astrology as a sideline, perhaps during times when you don’t have many translation clients. However, Mercury’s loss of strength tells us very clearly that you might be acting too hastily in rejecting your translation business altogether.

Free Astrology Advice: Horary Astrology – What Career Should I Pursue?
May 24, 2007 by admin
Horary Question:
I am at a life and career crossroads. I’ll be 50 years old this year and have work experience in many areas: managerial and administrative positions (in finance and academia), dressmaking and design, and writing (teaching; creative and expository writing). I also have considerable experience in reading and teaching tarot and astrology (modern western), and counseling and teaching women’s mysteries.
At this point in my life, I do not want to be “split” like this anymore. At 50, I am beginning to understand the need to conserve and focus my energy. And as far as work is concerned, I would like to create a situation where I am able to focus on one area of work which will put my developed skills to good use and also allow me to work into my elder years (I have no intention of ever “retiring”).
The choices I’m considering are:
1) to add to my astrological knowledge (take courses in horary and tradtional astrology) so that I can offer consultations and contribute through writing and teaching in this area,
2) to continue developing my tarot reading and teaching practice,
3) to focus on creative writing (poetry, fiction, and erotica) and publishing
Which of these areas is most likely to provide a good income as well as a sense of purpose into my elder years? (income and purpose are equally important to me here)
—D.
Nina Gryphon:
Dear D.,
Thank you for writing to me. Career questions are always very interesting, as the horoscope shows very clearly where the person’s talents and strengths lie. As always, I cast a horary chart for your question, and your horoscope for this is below:
First, we have to figure out which of your three options is represented by which planet or house. Both astrology and tarot would be represented by Mercury, which is linked with the divinatory arts, and also with the ninth house, which represents higher knowledge. So, to the extent it’s necessary, we will need to distinguish further to separate these two. Creative writing is also represented by Mercury, but the concept of producing creative works is really a fifth house activity. The fifth house rules all of our creations. The third house is also associated with writing, but it really represents the act of writing, of putting letters together on a page. Writing in the sense of composition, of creating written works, is properly a fifth house activity.
So we have two planets that we are examining; Mercury, which rules both tarot in astrology here, and Mars, which rules the fifth house of creativity. Both planets are very strong essentially, because each is in its own sign. So we see that you definitely are gifted to do any of these three. So in terms of satisfaction or the sheer ability to do this work, you could choose any of those options. Similarly, as far as fulfilling your soul’s purpose – any of these choices would put you where you need to be. As long as you are using your gifts, which you clearly are, with such strong planetary placements as these, you are on the right track.
However, not all of these fields will present the most opportunities for your growth and worldly success. For that, we have to see which of the planets is strongly placed such that it has maximum influence over its reality. This will show us which of your talents are in the best place to manifest strongly in your life. Mars, representing creative writing, is it. It is just inside the Midheaven, the house of career/fame, and in its own sign. Clearly, this Mars is in control. Mercury, on the other hand, could not be more weakly placed. It is in the cadent 12th house, tucked away in the back of the garage, as it were. It will be easier for you to make yourself known for your writing, and to make it into a career, than for the other two areas of endeavor.
Now, as far as money, the writing will do it for you. The second house from the fifth, indicating money from writing, is ruled by Jupiter in its own sign, Sagittarius, where it is strong. The income from writing looks positive, then. Jupiter is retrograde, so there might be difficulty getting the income stream going, but it is in the 5th house of creativity as well, so we get a strong sense that money will come from your creations.

Free Astrology Advice: Horary Astrology – Should I Return to Traditional Employment?
May 16, 2007 by admin
Horary Question:
I resigned from my job last year after 7 years. I felt my situation there had become intolerable and that I should take this as a signal to finally take the plunge and try a new career direction. I’ve had an idea in the background for a couple of years of moving into full-time share trading – a few friends do it successfully. I have a lot of knowledge and recently completed a formal exam in this area. What is lacking is actual experience at this time.
When I made the move I was aware that it would take some time to find my feet as experience doesn’t come overnight, however, I now wonder if I was in fact just a little too naive as I guess I did dive into the deep end without a clear idea of where the shore is.
Of course, now I’m starting to panic about my choice (the fear of the unknown and untried) and fear is nagging me to return to traditional administration work for the safety of the pay cheque albeit to the detriment of my soul.
I still have financial resources that can be stretched for another few months, but I do wonder if I’m deluding myself and whether my choice has been misguided.
—A.
Nina Gryphon:
Dear A.,
I can certainly understand your dilemma; working at a job you dislike can certainly drive you to take all sorts of risks. Sometimes these risks work out, sometimes they do not. I cast a horary chart for the moment I understood your question. The chart is below:
You are represented by the ruler of the first house of self, the Moon. The Moon is exalted in the zodiacal sign Taurus, so it is fairly strong. The main problem is that the Moon is combust due to its close proximity to the Sun, and is getting worse because it is getting closer and closer to the Sun. Combustion can show that a person is refusing to face reality, or cannot see it, because the blinding light of the Sun is in the way. The Sun represents money, as it rules your second house of assets. This is a very clear picture of the fact that while you are enjoying being independent (Moon in exaltation), the call of the emptying wallet is getting louder (the Moon moving closer into combustion with Sun). How is your money? Not so good; the Sun is peregrine and conjunct the malefic fixed star Algol (the head of Medusa, which turns living things into stone).
The problem is that the ruler of Taurus, symbolizing your present work, is Venus in Cancer in the 12th house. Venus is rather weak, both by essential dignity and by placement in the chart. Worse, it is not about to improve, since it is headed out of its current minor dignity into complete peregrination. Your current work cannot do much to help you, regardless of how much you are enjoying yourself. The interesting thing is that the Moon is also on its way out of Taurus, so we would expect that you enter a new job in a few months. That new job is symbolized by the ruler of the next sign, Mercury in Gemini. Mercury is in its own sign, and is therefore rather strong. The Moon is Peregrine in Gemini, so while the next job will be pretty solid, I do not expect you to be having a great time. However, it should definitely improve your financial situation substantially, which is the prime concern for you.

Free Astrology Advice: Horary Horoscope – Should I Stay Home or Return to Work?
December 8, 2006 by admin
Question:
I need to know if I should return to my job as a criminal prosecutor. I had a baby in 2004, whom I love more than anything. I became immediately very sick after giving birth and have been off work ever since. I’m supposed to return to work in January, my boss is now calling me to come in December. She’s putting a lot of pressure on me. I used to love my job, but I feel sick at the thought of returning. There’s a woman there, quite senior to me, who put a lot of effort into trying to ruin my life. She lied to many people about me. She tried to influence people into disliking me. She tried to ensure I got bad work reviews. She’s been continuing her efforts even though I have been away for over two years.
The job is also stressful simply from a heavy workload perspective. At the same time I really love my child and spending time with her. Sometimes, however, being at home 7 days a week is stressful and unfulfilling because I have a very traditional husband who is also bossy and often uncommunicative. I am worried that if I quit my job I’ll just be locked up in the home like the woman in the childhood story “Peter Pumpkin Eater”. He has benefited greatly b/c I’ve been home and sick and now that I’m feeling better, seems to resent it if I want to take a night off even to go to a bookstore. Can you help me with some free advice?
—J.
Nina Gryphon:
Dear J.:
Your situation sounds difficult, because no matter which option you choose, you will encounter some pressure. As always, I have cast a horary chart for the moment that I understood your question. Horary astrology is perhaps the oldest form of astrology; it casts a horoscope for the moment of the question, with the idea that the answer is contained in the horoscope. It used to be extremely popular in ancient times, when few people knew their time of birth, or could not afford to have an in-depth natal interpretation. The horoscope for your horary question is below:
In this horoscope, you are shown by Venus, ruler of the first house of self. The Moon also shows you, but more with reference to your feelings in this situation. Venus is in Virgo in the sixth house, about to conjoin the malefic South node. In Virgo, Venus is in the sign of its fall, and the sixth house is the house of illness. It appears that you are not in a very good position at the moment. It could be that you’re still dealing with the residuals of your sickness, and as a result, feel less than in full control of your life.
The Moon has just moved into Scorpio, and is on the verge of entering the seventh house of partners. We can see your emotional ambivalence about your husband’s influence; the Moon is in its fall in Scorpio, showing the high levels of frustration you’re feeling. However, the presence of the Moon in the seventh house shows to what degree your husband has control over your emotions. This is not a healthy situation, as I’m sure you’re aware.
Let us take a look at your job. It is shown by Saturn in Leo, ruler of your 10th house. Is it a good job? No; Saturn is in its detriment, so there is a real sense of pressure and even lack of reward. Saturn is in the fifth house of children, so we can see that your job is potentially afflicting your child. This is not unusual, as you obviously would not be able to spend as much time with your baby. If we place you, or rather Venus, just inside the 10th house, we can see how you would theoretically fare at your job. Venus in the 10th house in a night chart, which this is, does not have very much dignity in Capricorn. But it is not in terrible shape, either. It’s sort of a neutral situation without too much benefit or loss. If we place the Moon in the 10th house, showing how you would feel at your job, we do not get a warm and fuzzy feeling. Moon in Capricorn is in its detriment, so we get the sense that you would feel emotionally starved and generally unhappy.
If we place the Moon in the fourth house, it puts Moon in Cancer, which is the sign of its domicile. So there is a real sense that you would feel emotionally fulfilled staying at home. Venus is not terribly strong in Cancer either, so ultimately, it does not make a huge difference whether you go to work or stay at home, if we just look at the practical aspects of the situation. If we look at the emotional side of it, staying at home seems much more pleasant.
Perhaps a good middle ground would be to find another job: lawyers do have many options, and I am sure that you could find some kind of work that did not require you to work with people you don’t like or the kind of hours that you simply cannot sustain with a small baby.

Free Astrology Advice – Horary Astrology: Why Can’t I Find Work? When Will I Find a Job?
September 29, 2006 by admin
Question:
I decided to write to you because I’m desperate. For 18 months now I’ve been unemployed and I cannot find a job. Nobody seems to be interested in me. I have a lot of qualifications but something goes wrong at the last moment. That also means that my financial situation is in a mess as well as my emotional state. I have depression attacks and because of that I have become extremely passive. I’m going out of my mind. I tell myself that I cannot be that unlucky. Everybody goes through rough times. But this is too much.
—T.
Nina Gryphon:
Dear T.:
Long-term unemployment is very difficult, because you begin to doubt yourself, and it seriously affects your self-esteem. After a while, you begin to believe that the rejections are all because of your own weakness, whether or not that is true. As a result, after a while it becomes difficult to tell whether an unemployed job seeker could be a good employee or not, because they give off an aura of desperation. In other words, it is a vicious cycle. In this chart, we would expect to see the underlying causes for your unemployment. This is where horary astrology is so helpful, as it focuses on a very specific cause in any given situation. It is not just that it helps us predict the future, but it gives us a good photograph of the present. Personally, I find the latter even more helpful.
As always, I cast a chart for the moment that I understood your question. I use horary astrology to analyze this question, the name for which comes from the Greek: “of the hour.” The answer is always contained in the chart of the question. The chart is below.
In this horoscope, you are shown by Jupiter, Lord of the first house, and we can see that Jupiter is not in a happy place. It is in 15 Scorpio, where it is Peregrine, or without any essential dignity. Peregrine planets are ones that are neither good nor evil, they are rudderless, and are swept along with the winds of fate. You mentioned that you are extremely passive: this is a good definition of a Peregrine planet in practice. Further, Jupiter is just outside of the malefic 12th house of self undoing and imprisonment. I do not know why exactly, but many charts that I have seen where the person has been unemployed for a long time involve the 12th house. I would assume that this is because after a while you become your worst enemy – this, of course, is the very epitome of self undoing. A Jupiter like that is not one that screams out: “Hire me!”
The trick, then, is to get yourself cleaned up. I would recommend focusing on this before pressuring yourself to find a job. In your case, this may involve added education or training, combined with spiritual discipline. We can see that the moon, significator of your emotions, is in Gemini, where it is in the fall of Jupiter. Emotionally, you have a poor self-image. Jupiter, too, is in the fall of the moon in Scorpio. Your head and your heart are at odds, and neither is doing you much good. The only answer to this is to simply take yourself in hand, and get your act together. I noticed that the moon had recently separated from a square to Venus, which rules the 11th house of friends as well as the sixth house of illness. This is not a benefic Venus, because it is in its fall in Virgo. If you have had a health or mental health episode recently, this is probably what it refers to. This Venus will later sextile Jupiter. Note the very bad mutual reception between Jupiter and Venus; Venus is in the detriment of Jupiter, so whatever Venus is, harms you. Jupiter is in the detriment of Venus, so you hate whatever Venus represents. You mentioned episodes of depression; this may be it. Until you get this Venus under control, it will be difficult for you to get on the right track. This is why I initially recommended that you take a step back and look at your life as a whole, rather than defining it around your lack of a job. Consider what would be the most appropriate and healing path for you to take, because once you are well and strong, finding a job will be a breeze.
The chart does not show a job in the near future, but I would not expect that right now. In a sense, you need to reprioritize, and put your own well-being first for the time being. I wish you the very best of luck in this.

Free Astrology Advice – Horary Astrology: Will I Get a Good Job? Should I Change Careers?
September 28, 2006 by admin
Question:
Currently, I have a Masters in Library Science and have spent the last 7 years working as a Librarian or providing research. The past 2 yrs I have been a stay at home mom to my 2 kids. I have started job searching – I need to get a job soon. One with good pay, because my marriage is falling apart and I know my husband will pretty much do his best to screw me out of my share of the assets and can not be relied up on for child support. I have had a few interviews with various library systems, but never seem to move beyond that. It’s discouraging and frightening. Then it occurred to me that perhaps the Universe is trying to tell me to move on to a different or new career. The idea of changing careers is scary, I spent much time and money getting my Master’s to be a Librarian, but if I am meant to do something else, then I am meant to do something else.
—T.
Nina Gryphon:
Dear T.,
Your situation certainly sounds challenging, because you are fighting on two fronts; both to emerge from your marriage relatively solvent, and to find a well-paying job quickly. I have cast a chart for the moment I understood your question, an ancient astrological technique also known as horary astrology. This technique comes from the ancient times when few people knew their birth dates, and it gives a very quick and succinct answer to any specific questions you may have. Let us take a look at what the horoscope shows.
You are shown by Mars in Libra, the ruler of the first house of self. Mars is quite weak in Libra, where he is in his detriment. I believe that the weakness comes from the fact that you are in your husband’s power, to some degree at least. Libra is ruled by Venus, which rules your seventh house of partners. Therefore, Mars is weak because it is dominated by Venus, your partner. From a career perspective, Mars in Libra is not the most attractive employee — you might consider revamping your image, resume, or increasing your education, training or experience in some way that would make you more appealing to a potential employer.
You’re also shown by the moon in Gemini in the eighth house of fear. Because the moon shows your emotions, we can see that you’re quite afraid, and since the eighth house represents the house of your husband’s assets, a lot of your fear stems from worrying about being left to his tender mercies. The moon is in Gemini, which is ruled by Mercury. Mercury here rules the 11th house of wages. As you mentioned, this is your main motivator for seeking work at this time.
The job you are seeking, something in line with your experience in library science, is shown by the 10th house ruler, the Sun in Virgo. The Sun in Virgo is a good representation of library science work, because the ruler of Virgo, Mercury, is the natural ruler of books and scholarship. We also notice that Saturn in Leo, where it is quite nonstick, sits just outside of the 10th house of career. Saturn, in general represents limitations and obstacles. These obstacles can have different sources, and could simply show that there are few jobs that you seek available. The other possibility is that the available jobs are tough and restrictive. Saturn is not a fun planet. Mars in Libra, is in the sign of the sons of all. This means that you really, really don’t like whatever the Sun represents. You obviously do not seem overly enthusiastic about going back to work. Indeed, it can be a big change. However, Mars in Libra also exalts Saturn, so you are very enthusiastic about whatever Saturn represents. Saturn, in this chart, represents the home. This makes me think that given a choice you would prefer to stay at home; this is totally understandable. So in that sense, Saturn is what could be afflicting the job. Your wish to stay at home, and ambivalent attitude toward going back to work is sabotaging your efforts.
So will you get the job? Mars is not making any aspect of the Sun, so we have to see if the moon will meet the Sun, that is, whether you and the job will meet. The moon is on track to square the Sun, showing the job could be obtained, do with difficulty. However, before it the moon aspect the Sun, the Moon will run into that nasty Saturn. In horary astrology, this is known as a prohibition, and in real life it is what it sounds like. Something will get between you and the job. Because that something is Saturn, ruler of the fourth house of the home, perhaps your household duties or preference for staying at home with your kids may get in your way of finding a good job in the near future. Saturn also rules the third house, of reading or writing and short journeys. This is why I suggested you consider revamping your resume, seeking professional help, if needed. I think ultimately, you will find work, but you will run into some obstacles first. So it’s best to be prepared for the long haul.
You asked whether a different career might be the way to go. To examine this, we would look at the strongest planet in the chart. In this chart, we would have to go with Jupiter. As far as careers, Jupiter symbolizes “learned” work, and in a Mars-like fashion. This might signify something like nursing, since medicine is associated with Mars (cutting). Too, Jupiter rules the second in the houses of this chart. The fifth house is the house of art and pleasure, so that’s another possible avenue for you, getting involved in the creative world. Of course, this doesn’t necessarily pay, so nursing seems like more practical choice. Now, is this better than library science? It might be easier to get work in nursing, but the work is harder, and this would represent at least two years you would have to spend in school. In the short-term, I would revamp the application process, including the resume, and try to find a reasonably well-paying job. The nursing might be a good two-to-four year goal. The decision is yours.

Free Astrology Advice – Horary Astrology: When Will I Find Work?
September 25, 2006 by admin
Question:
I finished my internship/volunteer work in June and I started to send resumes out. Although I got a few answers and three interviews, nothing is coming my way. Nothing! I will have an interview next Monday and I am trying to be positive. I will be in a very bad financial situation really soon and I am a single mother and no family around. I have no idea what I am doing wrong. I would appreciate your insight.
– F.
Nina Gryphon:
Dear F.,
In the last few weeks, I have been getting more and more questions from people desperately seeking employment. As I’ve mentioned before on this blog, I suspect that this is a reflection of the global economy. While the Forbes 400 Richest Americans list has grown more exclusive, in that it includes only billionaires for the first time, my own observation has been that average people are struggling simply to make ends meet. I find this particularly disturbing when I see young people with your level of education (seven years) trying their hardest just to find some employment for which they are qualified.
But, let us take a look at your chart and your particular situation. I cast a horoscope for the moment in which I understood your question, and a picture of the horary chart is below.
You are represented by Mercury in Virgo in the second house, and because Mercury is so strong in Virgo (in its own sign and exaltation), this shows that you are highly qualified and a desirable employee. Sometimes, in employment horary charts, we find the individual in question shown by a planet in poor condition, reflecting that for whatever reason, they are currently not an ideal employee. This is not the case for you, however, and I do not think you are doing anything wrong as such. We see that your money is represented by the second sign from the first, that is Libra and its ruler Venus. Venus is weak essentially, in its fall in Virgo and it is positioned just inside the first house, showing its power to harm you.
You’re also shown by the Moon, which is in its exaltation on the 10th house cusp of work. Again, the good state of the Moon shows that you are highly employable. The moon is on the fixed star Algol which can show that you are in danger of losing your head — most of the time, this is meant figuratively. As a result, I would strongly caution you not to panic despite your financial difficulties, and be sure to look at any job you are considering as objectively as you can. Venus, apart from indicating your own finances, shows the job itself. Often, one planet will do double or even triple duty in a horary chart, provided that the meanings do not conflict.
The good news is that Venus is in the first house, showing that the job really, really likes you. And if you want it, it is yours. Ideally, we would wish to see in applying aspect between the planet signifying the job and the planet signifying you. However, that is sometimes not the case. We have two major indications of changes in your situation — your planet, Mercury, is about to move from its position in Virgo into Libra. This can mean that you are moving into an unfavorable position; perhaps this is a threat to your financial stability that is imminent. Because this will happen in less than one degree, I would expect there to be a change in your situation within a month from your question (September 12). However, something very, very interesting happens in this horoscope.
Just before (and I mean literally one minute of one degree) Mercury moves into Libra, the Moon trines Mercury, bringing you the job at the 11th hour. This happens in about four degrees, so we would expect this to happen in about four weeks from your question. You will note that we have two different time units here, one month and four weeks, so you can see that they coincide.

Horary Astrology Horoscope: Work – Should I apply for this job?
September 5, 2006 by admin
This is an example of a horary astrology reading I performed for a client in mid-July, 2006. Below is the horary reading analysis as well as some remedial measures with which I helped the client.
Background:
An accountant who had been unemployed for a few months wished to know whether it was a good idea to apply for a 9-month, temporary job with a shipping logistics company. He felt somewhat hesitant, as the job was very demanding, and essentially required him to act as one half of a two-person team. The client was not thrilled about this, but needed money. The application process was rather lengthy, and he did not wish to make the effort for a job he may not want.
Answer:
The job is shown by the planetary ruler of the 10th house, Mars. It is essentially weak and placed in the malefic 8th house. This does not bode well for the quality of the job itself.
The client is symbolized by Saturn (ruler of the 1st house of the self), which is quite weak because it is in Leo, a sign of its detriment. Is the client a particularly desirable employee right now? Not likely.
Mars is also in Leo, so also in Saturn’s sign of detriment; Mars really hates Saturn. The job hates our client, so we can make a preliminary guess that he may not get the job, or even if he gets it, he will hate it.
The watery Moon, symbolizing the client’s emotions, would not do very well in the 10th house – it would be in Scorpio, where it is in its fall. Emotionally, this job would be terrible for the querent.
The money from the job is pretty good, shown by the second sign from the 10th – Sagittarius. It is ruled by Jupiter, which is strongly placed, and quite overflowing with blessings (in the fertile water sign of Scorpio). The money is pretty good – it’s not a huge salary, but it’s pretty good.
The final nail in the coffin is that the job and our client will not have the opportunity to actually meet. Mars (the job) and Saturn (our client) will not aspect each other. Neither will Mars and the Moon (the client’s cosignificator) meet. So we can conclude the client should not apply for the job, because he probably wouldn’t get it – and seeing the quality of the job, thank goodness for that!
Spiritual Work:
Seeing my answer, the client understandably got somewhat agitated. Though the horoscope supported his gut feeling about the job, he wanted to know how he could attract the kind of job he wanted.
My advice was two-fold. First, I recommended a series of herbal cleansing baths. In this case, we saw in the chart that he was not in the best state psychically – perhaps he felt he could not compete with others in line for the job, or the coworkers once he got the job. I recommended a 13-herb uncrossing bath, performed daily before sunrise (not an easy task in the summer) for 13 subsequent mornings, starting just after the full Moon, so that the bad influence would decrease.
Second, after the bath series was done, I asked him to send me a personal item, and I put together an extra-strength mojo bag for him. The goal was to help him find a job soon that he enjoyed, that would pay well, and that had potential for advancement. The exact contents of the bag are a trade secret, but it included such traditional items as a Mercury dime for fast good luck, Five-finger grass for dexterity and favorable reception by other people, and Solomon’s Seal root for wisdom and success. I also sent him some oil with which to feed the mojo and use when he searched for work.
UPDATE! On August 21, the client called me, saying he had found a well-paying job in a large company, and his boss was an old friend from high school. He was absolutely ecstatic.

Weekly Free Astrology Readings: Hire J As Personal Assistant?
August 15, 2005 by admin

Free weekly astrology reading question: “Should I hire J. as my personal assistant?”
Background: The Querent owns a small business and is looking for a personal assistant to help her organize her busy schedule. She has been looking at a number of candidates, and has found one that seems appropriate. However, the Querent had some reservations about the candidate’s skills and experience as a personal assistant.
Short Answer: No. While J. is a decent person who could do the job adequately, it looks as though there will be some impediment to her using those skills. Perhaps the Querent’s job requirements will impede J. somewhat. More importantly, the Querent does not seem to like J. very much, or at least harm her in some way. This may not be personal, just that the Querent feels J is unsuited to the job. Instead, Querent seems to very strongly prefer another candidate, though that individual may be a rather worse choice than J. Nonetheless, we can determine J will not be hired.
Astrology:
- J, as the Querent’s potential employee, is shown by the 6th house and its ruler, Jupiter. Jupiter is in its term, so it has some essential dignity, indicating that J has some skills and is essentially a decent person. However, Jupiter is about to conjunct the malefic South Node, indicating that while J would be an okay employee, she will be prevented from using those skills. Perhaps something will happen to her, or more likely, the Querent herself would somehow prevent J from doing her job.
- Querent does not seem to like J very much, which would be one reason not to hire J as a personal assistant. This is shown by Venus in Jupiter’s detriment. However, both the Moon and Venus are in strong dignities of Mercury, indicating that the Querent much prefers another candidate. Unfortunately, Mercury is not known for its sense of honesty or integrity, and here Mercury is debilitated by being retrograde, peregrine and combust. Querent would do better in hiring J than this other individual.
- There will be no progress in the situation, as shown by the Moon being Void of Course (not making any aspects in its current sign). Nothing will happen, so unless we see aspects between Lord 1 or the Moon and Lord 6, we can assume J will not be hired. There is no applying aspect between Jupiter and Venus/Moon, so J will not be hired by the Querent.
