Mars enters the sign of Taurus on June 24, ending Mars’s sojourn through its own domicile of Aries. This is quite a step down for Mars, which was very strong in its own sign Aries, and now is in its detriment in Taurus. Mars will leave Taurus on August 7.

The energy of Mars is stifled and frustrated by heavy, earthy, fixed Taurus. For another analogy, Taurus is associated with cattle, and cattle are supposed be docile. Mars injects an inordinate amount of energy into this calm, contemplative sign, producing something of a raging bull. The energies of Mars and Taurus are incompatible, and the placement is considered an inauspicious one.

Still, there are many redeeming features that help press even the most recalcitrant planets into useful service. A trine from Saturn in Capricorn, for example, is most helpful, and gives Mars in Tarurus some needed structure and discipline. A square from Saturn in detriment in Leo, not so much. Of course, in a natal chart, we would first examine the level at which the person lives. Yes, Saturn in Capricorn might give discipline, but it might be the determination to do harm.

Electional Astrology Advice

If Mars rules an important house in your chart, such as the first house of self, do not start important undertakings during this period until August 7th. From about July 24 through August 3rd, this weak Mars will be squaring Saturn in Leo, which makes Mars rather crankier.  Thus, if it is the end of July, and you are planning Martial activities (sports matches, brawls, international conflicts), or activities ruled by Mars in your horoscope, it’s best to wait.

Planets in Your Horoscope: Sun in Cancer on June 21, 2007

horsesofneptune Planets in Your Horoscope: Sun in Cancer on June 21, 2007

The Sun enters the sign of Cancer, and summer officially begins. Cancer is one of the Cardinal signs of the zodiac, because it starts the season (all Cardinal signs begin their respective seasons).

The Sun is Peregrine throughout Cancer, meaning it has no dignity or strength in that sign. If you’re planning solar activities, or the Sun rules an important house in your natal horoscope, you will want to wait until the Sun enters the sign of Leo, at the end of July. Some examples of the Sun-ruled activities and things are as follows: anything to do with royalty, food, all superiors in any setting, honors, gold, and fathers. If the Sun rules a house with different meanings in your chart, this would take precedence over the natural rulerships listed above.

During its passage through Cancer, the Sun will conjoin Mercury on June 28, which will give us a few hours of the respite from the effects of retrograde Mercury. This is because the conjunction of the Sun and Mercury will cause Mercury to temporarily enter the state of cazimi, which is considered extremely beneficial for a planet. The Sun will not make any major aspects to other classical planets, except for the Moon.

Since Cancer begins the summer, stay tuned for a weather prediction for the American West for the upcoming season.

Planets in Your Horoscope: Sun enters Aries on March 21, 2007

kingphilipii Planets in Your Horoscope: Sun enters Aries on March 21, 2007

When the Sun enters Aries, the solar new year begins. In most ancient cultures, at least the ones from which we have records, the year began during the spring equinox, not in January. I am sure our ancestors would have thought that beginning the year on January 1 is ridiculous, since everybody can see that nature does not spring back to life until late March.

The Sun is in its exaltation in Aries, which makes sense, since the sun is bright in April, and seems very strong after the cold and dark winter. It is not truly at the apex of its power, as it is in the summer, when the Sun enters its own sign of Leo. But such is the nature of exaltation, making things look a little bit better than they really are.

If the Sun rules an important house in your horoscope, say the house of career, its passage to Aries will be a good time to do career related things. Looking for jobs, asking for raises, and angling for promotions may all be good things to do during this time. When a planet passes through the sign of its exaltation, there’s one degree in that sign in which it is ultra exalted and extremely powerful. When the Sun passes through Aries, it is super exalted between 18.0 and 19.0° of Aries. This will occur on Sunday, April 8, 2007. The Sun would be especially powerful on that day, because Sunday is the day of the week ruled by the Sun (hence the name!).

Planets in Your Horoscope – Electional Astrology: Venus enters Pisces

January 19, 2007 by

venusrisingfromsea Planets in Your Horoscope – Electional Astrology: Venus enters Pisces

Venus will transit Pisces on January 28, 2007 through February 20, 2007

Watery, fertile Pisces is perhaps the loveliest placement for Venus, the planet of love. While Venus is exalted in Pisces, it is not the strongest place for Venus – that honor must go to Taurus and Libra, which are the signs ruled by Venus. However, Venus delights in the water domicile of benevolent Jupiter the most, perhaps because Jupiter, ruler of fertile Pisces, delivers fertility and blessings in abundance. In this way, Venus (the Lesser Benefic) can temporarily experience the greater goodness of Jupiter (the Greater Benefic).

This is especially good news for Valentine’s Day, on which you would hope to have the planet of love in a strong position. Of course, the placement of Venus is a good day on which to do all things love- and sex-related. Here is more information about the astrological weather for Valentine’s Day, in case you have (or want to have) major plans for 2/14.

If you were born with Venus in Pisces, this is an excellent placement for Venus – the more prominent its placement is in your horoscope, the more strongly you will feel its harmonious influence. You are also about to have a Venus return, which is not an earth-shaking event, but will likely give you a day or two of harmony and good luck (provided your natal Venus is not horribly afflicted by a trine from Saturn in Cancer or something).

If Venus rules an important house in your horoscope, her passage through Pisces is a good time to start activities associated with those houses. Of course, you would want Venus strongly placed in the chart, which would require additional fiddling with the exact time and date, but just having Venus in the right sign would put you ahead of the competition.

Note that after passing through Pisces, Venus will enter Aries, which is unfavorable for the goddess of love. Venus in armor? I should think not! So if you have any Venusian things to do, do them before Venus leaves Pisces.

Electional Astrology: Best Times to Cut Hair in 2007

To ring in the New Year (a few days late, but hey), I have put up my revised astrological website, Gryphon Astrology.

I wanted to draw your attention to an article that I just posted on my free astrological articles page, which is too long to put on the blog, but hopefully interesting nonetheless. I found the best astrological times in 2007 for haircuts, depending on your hairstyle needs. The webpage on cutting hair at astrologically determined times lists all of these times and dates so you can make some use of them.

Here is an excerpt from the article:

Electional astrology can be used for mighty tasks (like the founding of Baghdad, which was astrologically elected), or for the most mundane things. The Heavens don’t care – I suspect that from way up high, everything we do seems pretty minute, whether we are fighting wars or taking the dog out for a walk.

I don’t get asked for electional charts for the founding of cities very often, but I do get asked for the best times to get haircuts. To help you find the best times for cutting hair, I have compiled the times below for all of 2007, based on traditional astrological principles.

My Experience with Elected Haircuts

I have had very good results with getting my hair cut at times that I elected. For the last year or so, I have been growing my hair out, so I was going for fast growth and thickness. There is definitely an improvment in the quality and quantity of my hair, and I have started getting a number of compliments on it, without changing the style or color. This is definitely subjective (if you are a researcher who wants to pursue this, let me know), but it works and is also kind of fun.

The categories I investigated were as follows: best times for slow growth, best times for fast growth, and best times for thick hair. I hope you find the list to be of help in your own quest for fah-bulous hair.

Electional Astrology: Best Time to Cut Hair for Fullness

If you think electional astrology has something to do with political elections, you are not alone. However, you are also wrong. Rather, electional astrology has to do with astrologically choosing just the right moment to do something for a desired result. Many people have the moment for the start of their weddings astrologically elected, with different purposes in mind. For example, someone may want a lasting marriage, another person may want lots of kids, a third person wants to dominate their spouse, etc. For each of these needs, the ideal horoscope would be different, of course. An important factor is that we have to take the natal horoscope into consideration when electing. If we see in the natal horoscope that the person is inclined to take a passive approach to life, we might want to construct a marriage horoscope to help them grow some backbone.

As you can probably imagine by now, electional astrology is pretty time-consuming, and hence, it can get expensive, depending on various factors. One important factor is that you have to analyze the natal horoscope before starting the electional process. This is why I always give my electional clients a cost estimate, so they do not get sticker shock later! But it is most definitely worth the cost, especially if you are starting a business or getting married, or undertaking another major venture.

Just to give you a taste of how electional astrology works, I elected a horoscope for cutting hair. The goal is to have the hair grow back very thick and lush, a veritable tropical jungle on your head (note: this would be a very bad time to wax your legs, for instance).

First, you can read on my website the rules for electing a horoscope for various needs, including the cutting of hair, as written by William Ramesey, a 17th-century astrologer.

astrologycuttinghair Electional Astrology: Best Time to Cut Hair for Fullness

You will notice we got rather lucky in being able to find a chart that satisfies Ramesey’s rules for the cutting of hair for thickness.

We have:

1. Ascendant in a fertile sign

2. Moon applying to oppose the Sun, so still increasing in light for an increase in hair

3. Ascendant and the Moon are free from the aspects of malefic planets

And we did Ramesey one better; Jupiter in Scorpio, a fertile sign, trines the ascendant, further increasing the hair growth. Jupiter is squared by a nasty Saturn, but we tucked Saturn away in a cadent house, so he is unable to do a lot of damage. This chart is set for New York, NY, and you have about a five-minute window on each side to start the haircut (elections are only for the start of the matter, not the entire haircut in 10 minutes).

If you happen to get your hair cut at this time as an experiment, let me know how your hair grew back. My email address is nina@gryphonastrology.com.
