Horary Astrology: Free Astrology Reading - “Should I Pursue the Affair?” - Tokens of Love

I´m married and not fulfilled in my marriage. I fell in love with colleague. Magnetism. I just know. He is married, 2 adopted children, wants to be friends yet admits to a strong desire for me. I´ve rejected his request for friendship and said goodbye. Any hope he´ll regret this? Ought I just to just get over it?

—T.

Nina Gryphon:

Dear T.,

It’s so tough to know whether these flings ever turn into anything serious; they don’t seem to most of the time, but every now and then, we do see a very strong relationship forming. Below is the horary chart I cast for your question:

Horary Astrology: Free Astrology Reading - “Should I Pursue the Affair?” - Horoscope

Your feelings seem to be smarting a bit since he rejected you, but emotionally, you are quite interested in him. Venus shows your identity as a woman, and it is in the detriment of Jupiter (his main ruling planet), so you don’t love the fact he turned you down. However, the Moon shows your emotions, and it is in Pisces, the sign of Jupiter. So you do seem rather attached to him on this level.

The problem is this: you do seem rather emotionally unfulfilled in your life, perhaps due to your marriage, as you said. From your perspective, this new man seems like he would be perfect to counteract that. But consider that the moment you became happier, you would likely lose interest.

He does seem attracted to you physically, but this is about to change. The Sun, which signifies his male “need mate” side, is currently very interested in Venus (you), but soon will enter Scorpio, which is the detriment of Venus. So his attraction is about to pass. However (and this is a big however), just as soon as the Sun enters Scorpio, it conjoins with Mercury, which is the ruler of your first house of self. There may be some kind of meeting or confrontation with him, perhaps even with sex involved. But because of his lack of interest, it just won’t go.

Note that his main planet is Jupiter, which is in its own sign and house, Sagittarius, and it is in the detriment of Mercury. This means that he is pretty happy with things as they are, and is not really interested in pursuing this relationship.

Because we do have two applying aspects between your planets and his (Moon’s square to Jupiter, and the Sun’s conjunction with Mercury), I would expect there to be some kind of last contact, but not much beyond this.

Free Astrology Readings: Horary Astrology – “Did My Friend Poison Me?”

October 16, 2007 by

Snow White Receives Poisoned Comb - Free Astrology Readings: Horary Astrology – “Did My Friend Poison Me?”

Horary Astrology Question:

A very good friend of mine from graduate school got me an interview which led to a job doing research in the same lab as her. She had been working there 10 years prior to me when I started. She was very fond of her boss and considered herself his second wife or work wife as she called it. During my employment the boss and I had developed a very good rapport of which she became very jealous. She would taunt me with her suspicions of a relationship between the boss and myself, which I tried unsuccessfully to explain to her was completely unfounded and ridiculous.

One day I became very sick and had to be hospitalized. Although every kind of test from blood tests to a lumbar puncture were run, the neurologists were at a loss to determine what casued my strange symptoms and just attributed it to a viral infection that attacked my brain stem.

We often prepared lunch for each other in the lab and just prior to my becoming ill, my good friend of 18 years prepared lunch one afternoon that she refused to eat. She said it was just for me. I thought it was unusual because she ate just a cold cut sandwich and she hated to eat a cold lunch, but she was so insistent on not eating the hot prepared lunch and I never thought anything of it. However, another friend of mine believes she could have put a neural toxin into my lunch. She does use them in her research and my other friend believes her jealousy was her motive. So she had means and motive, but did she do it?

—T.

Nina Gryphon:

Dear T.,

If there was an award for most dramatic question, yours would surely be one of the top contenders. I confess that my initial reaction was: “There is no way.” But as I looked at the chart, I became less certain. The horoscope for your question is below:

Horary Astrology - Free Astrology Readings: Horary Astrology – “Did My Friend Poison Me?”

I believe there are two main houses with which we are concerned here: the 11th house, which represents your friend, and the 12th house, which represents secret enemies. The way that the rulers of these houses interact with your planets will give us a sense of whether there was something more to the situation that was apparent.

You’re represented by Jupiter, ruler of the first house of self, and also by the Moon. The first thing which jumped out at us is the separating aspect between the Moon and the sun in Libra on the cusp of the 11th house of friends. While the Sun does not represent your friend as such, we do see that something nasty happened to you recently, perhaps not unconnected with your friend. You also mentioned that you left that job on difficult terms, so perhaps this is a reference to that event.

We do see that your friend seems to hate you; as you say, she certainly seems to have a motive. She would be represented by the ruler of the 11th house, Venus in Virgo, the sign of its fall. Benefic planets that are in debility represent situations or people that look good on the outside but are rotten within. Venus in Virgo is in the detriment of Jupiter, thereby hating or harming whatever Jupiter represents. Jupiter represents you.

Note that Venus has recently separated from an opposition by antiscion to the Sun. This would be the very Sun that just contacted your Moon. Contact by antiscion always represents matters that are hidden, and this is but one of two major antiscial contacts in the chart.

More disturbingly, we see that the Moon has just separated from an opposition to Mars by antiscion. Mars rules the 12th house of secret enemies, and it is in the sign of its fall. This gives us a sense that your illness was, in the words of William Lilly, “more than natural.” Perhaps most dramatically, we have a very close aspect between Venus and Mars, a sextile precise down to the minute. So this nasty Mars is closely linked with the planet representing your friend.

Note also Venus and Mars’s separating aspects to Saturn, which rules the second house of food. Saturn itself is debilitated by its close conjunction to the malefic South node, and its placement by sign also shows your food harming you. Saturn is in the detriment of Jupiter, just like Venus. Both Venus and Saturn are closely square the ascendant, afflicting your body, specifically the head, which is associated with the first house.

The evidence seems rather troubling, and the chart reflects the many hidden aspects of the situation. I cannot say whether neural toxins were involved, if she merely coughed on your food, or if she was sticking pins in a voodoo doll. Any of these are equally possible with the 12th house, and we should not automatically assume the worst.

Free Astrology Readings: Horary Astrology – “Will My Son & I Reconcile?”

October 10, 2007 by

Mother and Child in the Dunes illustrating Horary Astrology Question

Horary Astrology Question:

I divorced my husband in 1999 after 28 years of marriage. My oldest son was married at the time and only wanted my happiness. My youngest son was 18 at the time and remained living with my ex. After a year of dealing with increasing hostility from my son, I moved to California to live.

It has been six years since I have seen my youngest son and he has called me only when he needed money to solve a problem that he got himself into. After the last 2 years, he has now written me again for help. I don’t want to give him any money without responsibility and am waiting until I can have a real conversation with him. But I do want him back in my life in a real relationship. Will that ever happen & when?

—E.

Nina Gryphon:

Dear E.,

It seems to me that your younger son wants to have his cake and eat it too; he wants your money, but he also wants the moral high ground on the divorce. He cannot have both, regardless of how unjustified he thinks your divorce was. I cast a horary chart to get a sense of when a reconciliation may happen. The horoscope is below:

Horary Astrology Free Reading - Horoscope illustration: Reconcile with Son?

We can see that the situation is bothering you a great deal, and that you do love your son very much. Of course you do; he is your son! The ruler of your first house of self is Saturn, which is in the sign and exaltation of Mercury. Mercury rules the fifth house of children, and so it shows your son. Saturn is in the eighth house of fear, which indicates your anguish over the situation. [Frequent readers of this advice column will notice that in a disproportionate number of charts, the person’s planet is in the eighth house, showing that they are anxious or fearful about the issue.]

It may be that you do not have all the facts in the situation, or are simply blinded by the powerful emotions at work. This is shown by the fact that your co-significator, the Moon, is combust and moving deeper into a conjunction with the Sun. In either case, it would be most helpful for you to gather more information, both from third parties, and in talking to your son. You might learn more about the reasons for his hostility that you previously thought.

How does your son feel? He seems to have an exaggerated anger toward you; as evidenced by the fact that Mercury is in the fall of the Moon. In order for reconciliation to happen, Mercury will have to be out of Scorpio, to exit this bad reception with the Moon. Mercury is now grinding to a halt, as it will turn retrograde in a couple of days, and during this time, there will be two contacts with Saturn, indicating that you will be in touch with him more often in the not too distant future.

Venus will aspect Saturn (you), then Mars, then Mercury (your son). There may be an attempt to reconcile, perhaps by the means of a third party, but something may get in the way. Mercury itself will form a sextile aspect to Saturn, so I would expect another try at reconciliation in four or five months, maybe a little bit later than that. However, I don’t think that the two of you will really patch it up until the second half of 2008, which is symbolized by Mercury moving back into Libra, where it exalts Saturn. Regardless of the exact timing, I do believe that the two of you will eventually reconcile, and have a positive relationship, due to Mercury retrograding into Libra.

Free Astrology Reading: Horary Astrology – “Will I Remarry?”

October 9, 2007 by

Love on Watch illustrating Free Astrology Reading: Horary Astrology – “Will I Remarry?”

Horary Astrology Question:

I have been single for a long time, after my divorce. My ex was emotionally abusive and abused alcohol. It has taken me a long time to learn to trust men again and realize that there are good guys out there. My two sons are now adults and it is time for me to find some happiness in my life. Will I find a man to fall in love with and marry?

—I.

Nina Gryphon:

Dear I.,

From what people tell me, it’s not always easy for women over 40 to find Mr. Right, with the pool of male candidates of that age having shrunk dramatically due to marriage, too many hamburgers, and fast driving. But we can’t assume anything; as my teacher, John Frawley, says: “It is not we who know, it is the Astrology that knows.”

I cast a horary chart for the time I understood your question, and this horoscope is below:

Free Astrology Readings: Horary Astrology – “Will I Remarry?”

The good news is that there aren’t many factors against you getting married; we don’t see the kinds of dreadful afflictions to your significators that outright deny marriage. That said, in these kinds of questions, the older the person is, the stronger the testimonies must be to overcome the odds.

My concern in this chart is that you still don’t seem to be in the right frame of mind to have a constructive relationship with someone. As you say, this seems to be due to your negative past relationship, which must have been quite scarring emotionally. Your emotions, symbolized by the Moon, are still anti-relationship at this time. The Moon is in Virgo, the fall of Venus, which rules the seventh house of partners. The Moon’s most recent aspect was a conjunction to Saturn, which most likely represents your leaving this harmful marriage.

Also, right in line with what you said, you do seem to have some fear left over from the past, which makes it difficult to pursue relationships. The ruler of your first house of self is Mars in Cancer, placed in the eighth house of fear. Mars is very weak in Cancer, which is the sign of its fall. And due to Mars is placement in Cancer, we see that you are very much driven by your emotions right now…and how are your emotions? They are not really receptive to a partner at this time.

My sense is that you are jumping the gun a little bit in looking for a husband before you are ready to do so emotionally. I believe it can happen for you, as I don’t see major negatives against it, other than what’s going on with your emotions. However, it has been a long time since the divorce, and you are still scarred by your abusive marriage, so it may be a good time to get some emotional support/guidance so you can move forward constructively.

Free Astrology Readings: Horary Astrology – “Will I Get the Money?”

October 8, 2007 by

Oriental Girl in Palace Garden illustrating Free Astrology Readings: Horary Astrology – “Will I Get the Money to Renovate?”

Horary Astrology Question:

I work for myself so my income is variable. The facade of my house is collapsing. The builder is in the process of preparing yet another estimate because my husband will not finance the work. Therefore I must try and borrow the money. I don’t know to what extent the bank is prepared to lend me the money, as I am self-employed. I am British and have lived in France for 25 years. My husband is French. This is important to know as the bank is French. Will I get the money to renovate my house?

—J.

Nina Gryphon:

Dear J.,

A person much smarter than myself once told me that bankers only lend you money when they are convinced that you don’t need it. That said, it may be possible for you to squeeze water out of a rock; let’s see what the horary chart says. The horoscope for your question is below:

Free Horary Astrology Reading - Money to Renovate House?

The façade of your house does not appear to be in the best of shape: the ruler of your fourth house of real estate is Mars, which has recently entered its fall, the sign of Cancer. You can see how horary can be very literal — the house itself is falling. Mars is moving very slowly, as it prepares to enter first station before turning retrograde: your house is falling, though slowly. However, help may be on the way. Mars is about to sextile Saturn in Virgo, and since Saturn rules braces and reinforcements of all sorts, then the remedial measures should hold back the ravages of time.

So this is helpful; since we have evidence of the work being done, the money will come from somewhere. Let us take a look at the bank, and more specifically, its money. You will get some money from the bank, and I would expect this to happen very very shortly. The bank’s money is ruled by the Sun, which will very soon sextile your significator, Jupiter. How is the Sun? It is in the sign of its fall, though it is very strongly placed on the Midheaven. There may not be as much money as you had hoped. Perhaps at least in the short term, you may choose just to maintain the façade as it is, as opposed to going for a complete repair.

The Sun is also in detriment of Mars, the house, so the bank’s money harms the house. It may be that you will have to raise more money in the future to do a complete renovation of the façade and truly fix the problem, as opposed to just arresting further deterioration.

The good news is that the bank is willing to give you the money, as they believe that you have more money than you really do. Note that the Sun exalts Saturn, ruler of your second house of assets. It will be some time before you can truly renovate the house, but at least this first phase will be paid for.

Free Astrology Readings: Horary Astrology – “Can I Stay Where I Am?”

Unwilling Traveler - Free Astrology Readings: Horary Astrology – “Can I Stay Where I Am?”

Horary Astrology Question:

I’m a college student and I’m hopefully getting a job that I actually want in October but not completely sure. If I can’t, I have to go live with my Mom in a town where I would know no one. I’ve fallen in love with this town and I would like to know if I’m going to be able to somehow make ends meet and stick it here.

—K.

Nina Gryphon:

Dear K.,

I know how you must feel; I have a few places in the world where I would like to live, but our desires and reality are not always the same thing. I cast a horary astrological chart for the time of your question, and the horoscope for that is below:

Horary Astrology Horoscope - Free Astrology Readings: Horary Astrology – “Can I Stay Where I Am?”

I’m afraid that you may not be able to stay where you are. The Lord of the first house of self, Mars, is about to change signs, which is one testimony of an impending move. The fact that Mars is about to move into the sign of its fall, Cancer, makes me think that you are going to be in a situation you don’t like. The Moon, your co-significator, is in the double sign Pisces, which also is a hint that you may not be able to stay were you want.

This makes me wonder about the job that you are expecting. Mercury, ruler of the 10th house of work, is in the detriment of Mars, and will shortly trine Mars. If Mercury was not so badly disposed toward Mars, I would say you will get the job. However, because the job seems to dislike you, you will either not get the job, or the job will simply not be very good and you will not keep it.

Either way, as far as the job goes, good riddance. The 10th house cusp of career is extremely afflicted, telling us that there is something seriously wrong with this job. Saturn is on the 10th house cusp, as is the South node, both of which are highly malefic influences, and you give discouraging testimony regarding this job prospect.

Free Astrology Readings: Horary Astrology – “Will We Get Married?”

September 24, 2007 by

Young Bride, illustrating Horary Astrology Horoscope illustrating Free Astrology Readings: Horary Astrology – “Will We Get Married?”

Horary Astrology Question:

C. and I were together for a considerable amount of time and spoke of marriage in the future. We broke up because he said he needed time. This is the man that I believe in my heart I am to marry but I’m also obviously having a big moment of doubt due to the breakup. Will we be married?

—R.

Nina Gryphon:

Dear R.,

I am sorry to hear of your relationship problems. I cast a horary chart for the time I understood your question. The horoscope is below:

Horary Astrology – “Will We Get Married?”

You are represented by the ruler of the first house of self, Mars in Gemini in the eighth house. Planets in the eighth house can show a person is afraid or deeply worried about the situation; this has obviously been weighing heavily on your mind. Your emotions are shown by the Moon in Pisces, and the fourth house. The fourth house rules endings, so you have been deeply emotionally affected by the breakup.

We seeing is that the Moon is in the exaltation of Venus; so you think very highly of whatever Venus represents. Venus is your boyfriend’s significator, as it rules the seventh house of partners. Unfortunately, Venus does not reciprocate your high regard. It is in Leo, the sign and triplicity of the Sun. Given that the Sun represents your boyfriends urge to find a mate, or physical attraction, we get the sense that he is most interested in fulfilling those needs at this time. Nor does he appear to be lusting after you: the Sun is in Libra, where it is ruled by Venus. The fact that the Sun is in the sign of its fall, hints at the possibility that he is in no condition to get married.

With the Moon in the house of endings about to oppose Saturn, and no applying aspects between your planets and his, I am afraid that the two of you will not get married. The interest from his side just isn’t there.

There is one thing in this chart that caught my attention, and perhaps you can explain it to me. We see Mercury in Libra in your 12th house of secrets, trine Mars, receiving Mars into its detriment, and conjunct the Moon by antiscion. This would indicate three possibilities; there is someone in your life that you’re not mentioning, somebody in his life that you don’t know about, or a false friend who has been causing trouble in your relationship. In any case, things are not as they seem, and not necessarily to your benefit.

Free Astrology Readings: Horary Astrology – “Should I move to England?”

On Board a Sailing Ship - Free Astrology Readings: Horary Astrology – “Should I move to England?”

Horary Astrology Question:

Just last week I resigned from my going nowhere administrative job and now am unemployed. I am at a crossroads and my mind is flying in many different directions. One conventional path is steering me to pursue a Master’s degree in Education near my home town, but the thought is boring, yet responsible.

The other path I am considering is moving overseas to England, which sounds more appealing and especially exciting. Am I kidding myself or could this move prove beneficial?

—L.

Nina Gryphon:

Dear L.,

Thanks for writing to me. These types of questions are interesting; it never occurred to me until I started doing horary astrology, that most of the time there isn’t much of a difference between here and there. The vast majority of the time, the chart shows that circumstances will be similar whether we make the change or not. I suppose this is because we take our natal horoscope wherever we go, and its inherent luck or lack thereof travels with us. Below is a horary chart set for the time I understood your question:

Horary Astrology – “Should I move to England?”

The first house shows what happens if you stay where you are, and we see that its ruler is Saturn in the eighth house. Saturn’s recent transition into Virgo indicates you leaving your job; the fact that Leo is the sign of Saturn’s detriment shows that the change was likely positive. However, the fact remains that Saturn is in the malefic eighth House, and it will shortly conjoin the malefic South node. So there are definite problems if you stay, possibly stemming from financial issues, as the eighth represents other people’s money.

The seven house, representing England, looks more problematic. It is shown by the Moon, which is currently in Sagittarius, but will very shortly enter Capricorn, the sign of its detriment. More than this, the seventh house cusp is afflicted by the antiscion of Mars. This is not good either. The interesting thing is that both planets (Saturn and the Moon) are fine where they are at the moment, but they will soon run into trouble. This tells me that in the very short term, whatever you choose will be fine, but you may experience difficulties later.

As far as the Master’s in education, this could be beneficial, though I would exercise some caution, again related to finances. We see that the ruler of the ninth house of higher knowledge is Mercury in Libra, the exaltation of Saturn. So this degree program could really help you. I don’t like the fact that if we hypothetically drop Saturn just inside the ninth house to see how you will do at school, it is combust. This is a major debility for planet. So it may be worthwhile investigating other programs, degrees, or schools, before deciding on this one.

I wish the news were better, L., but I hope this at least gives you some sense of what to expect – better to be prepared.

Free Astrology Readings: Horary Astrology – “Will I Regret Selling My Car?”

September 18, 2007 by

Mrs. Sacher’s Carriage illustrates Free Astrology Readings: Horary Astrology – “Will I Regret Selling My Car?”

Horary Astrology Question:

The car is a classic, it’s orange, and it was originally purchased at the beginning of a 14 year relationship which ended 1.5 years ago. So it is dense with sentimental symbolism and it needs repair. When people in my neighbourhood see the car, they cheer up. The ol’ girl, I call “Hussy,” smacks of authenticity and vibes freedom. But hey, it’s heavy on the pocket and requires a lot of attention. I feel attached to the car. Would I regret selling it?

—M.

Nina Gryphon:

Dear M.,

Thank you for writing to me. This is probably my favorite kind of horary chart, and not only because it has to do with classic cars. Horary is excellent at showing what will happen when we take a certain course of action, so it can be quite empowering. The chart for your question is below:

Horary Astrology – “Will I Regret Selling My Car?”

The car is definitely a beauty! It is shown by your 2nd house of moveable possessions, and its ruler, Jupiter in Sagittarius. Sagittarius rules the color yellow (not sure what sign rules orange), so this seems like a good description of your car. Since Jupiter is in its own sign, we see that the car is quite lovely and even awe-inspiring, as is fitting for Jupiter.

So how do you feel about the car? Mars, the ruler of the 1st house of self, is in the detriment of Jupiter (Gemini), in the 8th house of other people’s money. You are thinking about the money you could get for it, and so rationally know that selling it would be financially beneficial. But your heart says something different: the Moon (your emotions) is in the sign of Jupiter, so you really, really ♥ this car, and your head and heart are at odds.

Here’s the thing; I believe that you will sell it regardless (i.e.: your head will prevail). The Moon’s next aspect is to the 7th house of a potential buyer, connecting Jupiter to Venus, the buyer. What happens then? Mars enters Cancer, the exaltation of Jupiter; you will start idolizing the car, and thinking about how great it was. So, yes, I do believe you will regret selling it.

Free Astrology Readings: Horary Astrology – “Will We Marry and Be Happy?”

Horary Astrology – “Will We Marry and Be Happy?”

Horary Astrology Question:

I live in Orlando, Florida. He lives in Australia. We’ve been emailing for two years and he plans to fly to the States so we can meet. There are mutually strong feelings freely confessed. And it’s lasted a year with romantic feelings; 2 years as great friends online. I know he’s sincere. He knows I am, too. Neither of us is a player. I’m 8 years older. My gut says he’s the one. What do you see? When we meet we’ll have to know from that because it’s not a trip easily afforded to have many occasions to determine the possibilities.

—A.

Nina Gryphon:

Dear A.,

Thank you for writing to me. I cast a horary chart for the time of your question:

Horary Astrology – “Will We Marry and Be Happy?”

First, let’s take a look at what is going on with him. He is ruled by your seventh house of partners, and its ruler, Mars in Gemini. His co-ruler, the Sun, represents his urge to marry or his level of physical attraction to you. With Mars in your second house, he is primarily interested in your high opinion of him. This is not quite the same thing as him being head over heels in love with you, but he obviously does care how you feel about him.

The Sun is a little bit more problematic here; because it is in Virgo, it is in the fall of Venus, your main significator. Could it be that you’re not quite getting the sheer animal attraction from him that would be appropriate at this stage in a relationship? Or perhaps he has just not expressed an interest in a long-term committed relationship?

The interesting thing is that both of his planets are in strong dignities of Mercury, which rules the second and sixth houses in the horoscope (his eighth and 12th houses). Without knowing more about your relationship, I wouldn’t gamble on what these houses represent. There may be a possibility he is interested in your money, but as I mentioned above, very often this can just mean that he is interested in your approval or high opinion of him. Both of these are ruled by your second house.

I don’t like the fact that the Sun is in the turned 12th house of secrets. This doesn’t mean that he has some kind of scandalous secret life or anything, but it’s not a placement but I like to see in relationship questions, as I believe that everything should be out in the open.

You are definitely attracted to him, and are certainly hot to trot as far as marriage goes. This is because your first house ruler, Venus, is in the sign of the Sun, and the Sun rules him as animal Man, and also it rules the Arabian Part of Marriage at 9° Leo. I am a little bit puzzled by the placement of the Moon, which seems to indicate some kind of sadness. The Moon is conjunct Vindemiatrix, which represents sorrow or separation. The Moon is also in the fall of the Sun (him as animal Man and marriage), and the detriment of Mars, his main significator. Has there been some kind of problem with him recently? It’s like your head wants one thing and your heart another.

Since you’re asking about marriage, I would want to see an applying aspect between your planets and his. The only applying aspect is the upcoming opposition between the antiscion of the Sun at 9.59° Aries and the Moon at 8° Libra. Oppositions represent breakups or regret, which would tell us that this romance may not lead to marriage. Again, the fact that this is happening in his 12th house, makes me wonder if you have all the information in this situation.
