Horary Astrology: Free Astrology Readings – “When Will He Propose?”
July 30th, 2007 at 10:38 am (Free Astrology Readings)
Horary Astrology Question:
I’ve been dating my boyfriend for almost three years now. We’d always talked about after graduating college we’d live together, and possibly marry, etc. Now we’re both in our last year, and I’ve noticed he’s become overcome with anxiety. I don’t know if it’s towards me, or what, but he has changed considerably. He’s become more withdrawn, cold, and less “open” with me, I don’t know if this is him just maturing into a different person or what. Either way, I love him to death, and I’m sure the feeling is mutual. Will our plans ever come true for us?

Nina Gryphon:
Dear M.,
Thank you for writing to me. I cast a horary chart for the time that I understood your question, and the horoscope is below:
In this horoscope, you are shown by the ruler of the first house of self, Mars, while your feelings are shown by the Moon. He is symbolized by Venus, ruler of the seventh house of partners, and his urge to find a mate is shown by the Sun. Now, the main challenge that you face is his recent seeming loss of interest in you. This is indicated by the Sun having moved from Cancer into Leo recently, and also by Venus moving from Leo into Virgo. The problem is that in the signs, neither of those planets seem very interested in you. It may be that his hormones are telling him that a committed relationship is not what he should want at this time. When the Sun was in Cancer, we saw that he was attached to you emotionally. With its recent move into Leo, he has become interested primarily in listening to his hormones.
So the question shouldn’t really be when he will propose, but rather what is going on with him. Despite his recent change of heart, I still think there is a good chance that the two of you will eventually get married. However, I think it will take some time, probably one to two years. This is indicated by the Moon’s applying to the Sun by trine aspect, and by Saturn collecting the light from Mars, and eventually its conjunction with Venus. I think the situation will move more slowly than you would like, but your relationship should survive.

Dear Nina, just trying to learn! Is there a square to come soon between Mars/Venus (Gemini/Virgo)? Is that relevant? Thanks.

Dear Nina,
while trying to understand horary (particularly that of relationships) what has always been surprising me is somewhat categorical tractation of relationship between planets standing for each of the partners. I wonder, is it not to simplicist to always state, that, for instance, a planet in Leo shows lack of interest or dislike towards Saturn, ect.
In my opinion, it often could be only part of the truth, sometimes- only what we can see on the surface. After trying to read some horary charts (and that was not very succesful), it started to seem to me that there is something missing in this method.
For instance, I asked a question about my and my partner’s feelings towards each other. Most of that chart really seems to fit, I can see it telling the whole story about our relationships. However, it shows Moon in Aquarius, and this, according to the method you practise, would mean that I “dislike” or am “not interested” in his, so to say, “hormones”… Well, actually I can see what this placement of Moon means in this particular context. The problem is that it cannot be explaned that way…
Moon in Aqua shows that I have some problems related to intimacy. Having Saturn Rx in Scorpio natally, it is probably not surprising that I am somewhat cautious about sex and sexuality, ant it is not so easy for me to relax and enjoy the intimacy. It does not mean, that I reject, or hate, or do not appreciate my partner’s sexual expression. I just cannot fully accept all this (detriment of the Sun) because of my emotional blockages (Moon).
Well, it’s just my opinion. I am not an astrologer, so I would be very grateful for any corrections if I have misunderstood something.
best wishes,
Anna

Hi Satori,
No applying square between Venus and Mars in Gemini and Virgo at the moment, as Venus will retrograde back into Leo.
There will eventually be a square between the two when Mars enters Gemini, but there will be other intervening aspects to Mars in the meantime, prohibiting the aspect.

Hi Anna,
Good question - thank you. Yes, it would be too simplistic to always say “Moon in Aquarius means you are not physically attracted to Bob” or whatever. But that means we are not taking into account the question itself. If the question is: “Do Bob and I have a future together?” - and often that *is* the underlying question - then the Moon being in Aquarius would well describe one’s ambivalence to Bob. Besides, if there was no ambivalence, then the above question would not be asked!
I do not agree with your statement that Moon in Aquarius automatically shows lack of interest in the man from a sexual perspective (assuming Querent is female). Besides, the Sun is more than just one’s sexual expression! It is the man as a partner, a husband, as opposed to Bob, the individual. I don’t know what your horary looks like, or indeed, what the exact question was, but I would not judge it to mean you hate having sex with your partner. Unless the question directly pertained to that, of course.
I hope that clarifies things at least a bit.

Thanks Nina for clarifying. So Saturn instead collects the light from Mars and eventually conjuncts Venus and achieves the desired effect of bringing the Main significators together and a positive answer to the question.

Hi Satori,
No, the opposite in fact. Daturn does not collect anything because:
1. Mercury’s application to Mars prohibits any aspects to Saturn
2. Venus must change signs to aspect Saturn, which here would be a no-no.
I hope this clarifies it.

Sorry Nina, you wrote
“and by Saturn collecting the light from Mars, and eventually its conjunction with Venus”
what am I missing?!
Sorry again!

Hi Nina and Satori,
I thought I was cruising along also until the last clarification. Se le vi.
I got Mars squaring Saturn before Mecury got in the way and due to Venus being stationary and preparing to go retrograde, I was giving it freedom to conjunct Saturn in Leo, which it seems is not allowed. No sign switching, eh. Live and learn (very slowly it appears in my court.)
Thanks for the questions Satori and as always, thanks for the blog Nina!

Dear Satori and Krysta,
You’re not missing anything, and I am strongly thinking of taking up coffee again! Or at least going for some yummy chocolate. So, let’s see if I can straighten this out, more awake now:
1. Mercury does not prohibit anything, as it does not aspect Mars before Mars gets to Saturn.
2. And yes, Venus will have to change signs, but that’s the whole context of the question, since Q is asking whether his behavior will ever change. Normally, I’d invoke the “no sign change” barrier, but here it is part of the implied change.
I hope this unmuddies the water slightly.

Ahhhh,
There you have it. I think you had it early on Nina, and it came out strange in writing, perhaps.
Regardless, I am back on track with being able to follow how you got to the outcome, which makes my day. I needed a boost despite my coffee intake being high already. Thanks again for keeping my mind entertained and improving skills all around.
