Planets in Your Horoscope: Mars in Taurus on June 24, 2007
May 28th, 2007 at 2:28 pm (Planets and Signs in Astrology)
Mars enters the sign of Taurus on June 24, ending Mars’s sojourn through its own domicile of Aries. This is quite a step down for Mars, which was very strong in its own sign Aries, and now is in its detriment in Taurus. Mars will leave Taurus on August 7.
The energy of Mars is stifled and frustrated by heavy, earthy, fixed Taurus. For another analogy, Taurus is associated with cattle, and cattle are supposed be docile. Mars injects an inordinate amount of energy into this calm, contemplative sign, producing something of a raging bull. The energies of Mars and Taurus are incompatible, and the placement is considered an inauspicious one.
Still, there are many redeeming features that help press even the most recalcitrant planets into useful service. A trine from Saturn in Capricorn, for example, is most helpful, and gives Mars in Tarurus some needed structure and discipline. A square from Saturn in detriment in Leo, not so much. Of course, in a natal chart, we would first examine the level at which the person lives. Yes, Saturn in Capricorn might give discipline, but it might be the determination to do harm.
Electional Astrology Advice
If Mars rules an important house in your chart, such as the first house of self, do not start important undertakings during this period until August 7th. From about July 24 through August 3rd, this weak Mars will be squaring Saturn in Leo, which makes Mars rather crankier. Thus, if it is the end of July, and you are planning Martial activities (sports matches, brawls, international conflicts), or activities ruled by Mars in your horoscope, it’s best to wait.

Wow, well this is my week at Gryphon Astrology.
Yes, I’ve got Mars in Taurus in the 2nd house. Can you say “spend-a-holic?” I knew you could. I’m slow, set my ways, and spontaneity is *not* my middle name. I also have a partile trine to Saturn in Capricorn in the 11th. I call this aspect “the workhorse.” As Mick Jagger (another w/ Mars in Taurus) sang: “start me up, I never stop.” I can be utterly lazy as well, but when the mood is on I just keep going. I love good food, clothes, nice furniture, books, music — well, you name it. With Sun/Venus/Merc in Cancer, I am a fairly good cook and very domestic. I don’t lose my temper very often, but when I do, it can be violent. It very much expresses in the classic “takes it, takes it, and takes it, then suddenly detonates like Vesuvius over some piddling detail. I like working out in the gym, using weight machines & free weights. I also injured my back doing that.
I have recently had a bout of GERD - acid reflux - that I am struggling to control. I actually enjoyed the 6 mo. transit of Mars through Taurus, although it came during a time when my mother fell ill and died. I had lots of energy & duties to perform. When it was all over, I just collapsed and have been inert since!

what happens if the native has both mars in taurus (11th house) and saturn in leo (3rd House)?
will i be squaring myself?
or will i have to put off some thought on my hopes and wishes… ?

Hi Julia,
Mars in Taurus is definitely spendy, though your Saturn in Capricorn probably keeps a lid on it. And yes, the second house rules food and the throat, so the acid reflux seems to fit as well. Probably best to stay away from rich (Taurus) or spicy (Mars) food!
Thank you for sharing. And happy upcoming birthday!
Warmly,
Nina

Mars in Taurus has definitely been bullish on cattle futures. December Cattle bottomed at $94.10 on June 27, 2007 and reached $101.00 as of the close on July 31, 2007. This price is a new high for the year.

Hi James,
Interesting! Thank you. Have you noticed a correlation to Mars’s two-year cycle to cattle futures, on a repeated basis?
