Planets in Your Horoscope: Venus in Aries

Venus will enter Aries on February 21, 2007
The old astrologers used to say that Venus in the signs of Mars (Aries or Scorpio) is a sign of filthy lust. This is because the combination of the sensual nature of Venus with the energetic nature of Mars results in a highly sexual mix. It probably will not come as a surprise that Venus in Aries is in the sign of its detriment, because it is in the sign opposite from its rulership in Libra. The difficulty inherent in Venus in Aries is like putting a ballerina in a suit of armor. The ballerina will attempt to express her harmonious and beautiful nature, but she can only do so through the aggressive role afforded to her by her placement in Aries.
A similar effect arises when we have Venus conjunct Mars (and, to a lesser extent, other close aspects), and of course if this aspect is happening in either of the Mars signs, the importance of sex in the native’s life will be that much greater.
Contrast this placement with Venus in Pisces, where Venus is exalted. The expansive, harmonious, and beneficent influence of Pisces is a much more favorable terrain for Venus. This is because Venus can exercise her virtues much more freely and in sympathy with the sign. When Venus is in Aries, her inherent virtue of love will be filtered by the dissimilar and decidedly unloving lens of the Martial sign Aries.
If Venus rules an important house in your chart, Venus’s transit through Aries is not a good time to undertake projects associated with that house. Rather, it would be more appropriate to wait for Venus’s entry into Taurus, where it is in its own sign. This will happen on March 17.

This is interesting. I have a friend who has a natal Venus in Aries in the 12th house. She is aggressive and competitive in love and yet she is also codependent. I had to suspend our friendship when I realized that she was becoming competitive with me, going so far as to being interested in a guy only after I had expressed interest in him–even though she didn’t even find him attractive!!
Hi Eme,
That is really fascinating. The 12th house gives it kind of a…self-destructive flavor, I should think. You can see how she harms herself – her competitive nature in love undermines the rest of the life. Good ol’ house of self-undoing.
Warmly,
Nina
You know, I never thought of it that way. I see that in relationships she can be extremely controlling, which would apply to a cardinal sign such as Aries.
I have Venus in the 12th as well, except it’s in Gemini. In fact, I have had two other girlfriends with Venus in the 12th, one has it in Cancer and the other in Aquarius. Now that you put it that way in relation to my friend, maybe the way I self-destruct in love is with what I say or communicate? (Thinking aloud here.) But Venus in the 12th is not all bad, is it? I mean, it IS possible to find true love in spite of this placement. I hope anyway.
Hi Eme,
No, Venus in 12H is not all bad – your friend seems to have a bad case because it’s a detrimented planet in a malefic house, so a double whammy.
You’d have to look at the receptions among Venus and the other planets, and other aspects to see whether anything else in the chart redeems or sinks that 12th house placement.
Warmly,
Nina
Wow – I have Venus in Aries, in the 2nd H. I am definitely naturally competitive but I have always attributed that to my Mars in Leo in the 7th H oppose Jupiter in Aquarius in the 1st H. Now you’ve got me really curious. I don’t feel that I have been in detriment in attracting men into my life – quite the opposite. I am outgoing with a healthy sense of humour and that has been a plus for me in the game of attraction. My sense of competition is always connected with my raising the bar for myself rather than crushing an opponent. I do have a rather assertive style, generally speaking, and I think that people see me as much more confident than I often feel inside. I am married to a very Venusian man, a writer, poet, dreamer, caretaker (I think these qualities in him have caused partners in his past to feel frustrated with him) who’s Venus is also in Aries – his though in the 6th H. This is the healthiest most loving and respectful relationship that I have ever had. I, though, am defintitely the “do-er”. Have I attracted a softer, feminine side that I perceive missing in me – in my partner? I would be interested in your comments.
