Horary Question:
Will I be successful in my career? The problem is that I feel insecure of my capacities. I wish to be a successful person, but I don’t feel that I hold the enough energy or power to do so. I am studying sociology now, and I am surrounded of many professionals, and I just wish I could become like them. I know that I must act, not complain, but it seems to me that no matter how hard I try, I can’t get good enough. On the other hand I don’t know if I’ll ever work in the field of sociology.
In a previous period of my life (I mean prior to my college years) I used to be very hard working and now … it’s not that easy. Back then I thought I will turn out to be successful, but for the moment I don’t know anymore. Somehow I feel insecure because I’m practically all alone, no parents to guide me (in the sense that they can’t give me advice about this). The thing is that in my family nobody has such a brilliant career and therefore I’ve got this strange feeling that I just can’t do better. As a student I meet a lot of great people and I’m somehow afraid that once I finish the university I won’t get to be at their level and I’ll end up feeling nostalgic about this period in my life.

Dear N.,
I can understand your concerns; when one is in school, it is so easy to feel intimidated by the very successful professionals and academics all around. Before we get into the astrological component of this, I would encourage you to spend time talking with people whom you admire, and ask them how they became successful, what they did, what advice they would give you, etc. You will find this gives you concrete ideas that you can incorporate into your own career plan.

In this horoscope, we will look at your significator, Venus, and your co-significator, the Moon. We will also look at the ruler of your 10th house of career, Saturn, to supplement our understanding.
Venus is in the 10th house, in Aquarius, the sign of Saturn. We can immediately see that your career is very much on your mind, and it is the main driving force in your life at this time. The Moon, which shows your emotions, is in Libra, the exaltation of Saturn. In the malefic sixth house of servants and slaves, the Moon shows a very clear picture of your feelings of inadequacy. On the one hand, you feel yourself to be lowly, and on the other, you exalt your career (Saturn), expecting great things from it and from yourself.
To get a general sense of your career future, we will need to look at where Venus, and to some degree the Moon, are going. Venus is about to conjoin the Part of Fortune in the 10th house, and at the same time, it will sextile a very powerful Jupiter in Sagittarius in the seventh house. As you can probably guess, both of these indicators are extremely fortunate and promise success in your career, as the Venus-Part of Fortune conjunction will occur in the 10th house of career. Jupiter is in the seventh house of partners and significant others, indicating that success will come through the people with whom you partner, whether on a personal or professional level.
The question is whether you will succeed in the field of sociology. The career itself is shown by a very weak Saturn in the fifth house. Saturn is in Leo, the house of its detriment, and it is retrograde. We also noticed that the Moon is about to square the Sun, ruler of the fifth house (where Saturn is located), with some problematic receptions. The fifth house rules children and your own creations of any kind. With Saturn afflicting this house, there seems to be a sense that your chosen career is somehow harming any projects you’re working on. Without additional background as to your situation, I do not know what this indicates specifically. However, I do suspect that if you’re working on research projects, articles, or theses, you may need to rethink whether you want to work on them.
