Free Astrology Advice: Horary Horoscope - Should I Stay Home or Return to Work?

Mother and Child - Horary Question: Work or Stay Home?

Question:

I need to know if I should return to my job as a criminal prosecutor. I had a baby in 2004, whom I love more than anything. I became immediately very sick after giving birth and have been off work ever since. I’m supposed to return to work in January, my boss is now calling me to come in December. She’s putting a lot of pressure on me. I used to love my job, but I feel sick at the thought of returning. There’s a woman there, quite senior to me, who put a lot of effort into trying to ruin my life. She lied to many people about me. She tried to influence people into disliking me. She tried to ensure I got bad work reviews. She’s been continuing her efforts even though I have been away for over two years.

The job is also stressful simply from a heavy workload perspective. At the same time I really love my child and spending time with her. Sometimes, however, being at home 7 days a week is stressful and unfulfilling because I have a very traditional husband who is also bossy and often uncommunicative. I am worried that if I quit my job I’ll just be locked up in the home like the woman in the childhood story “Peter Pumpkin Eater”. He has benefited greatly b/c I’ve been home and sick and now that I’m feeling better, seems to resent it if I want to take a night off even to go to a bookstore. Can you help me with some free advice?

—J.

Nina Gryphon:

Dear J.:

Your situation sounds difficult, because no matter which option you choose, you will encounter some pressure. As always, I have cast a horary chart for the moment that I understood your question. Horary astrology is perhaps the oldest form of astrology; it casts a horoscope for the moment of the question, with the idea that the answer is contained in the horoscope. It used to be extremely popular in ancient times, when few people knew their time of birth, or could not afford to have an in-depth natal interpretation. The horoscope for your horary question is below:

Work or Stay Home? Horary Astrology

In this horoscope, you are shown by Venus, ruler of the first house of self. The Moon also shows you, but more with reference to your feelings in this situation. Venus is in Virgo in the sixth house, about to conjoin the malefic South node. In Virgo, Venus is in the sign of its fall, and the sixth house is the house of illness. It appears that you are not in a very good position at the moment. It could be that you’re still dealing with the residuals of your sickness, and as a result, feel less than in full control of your life.

The Moon has just moved into Scorpio, and is on the verge of entering the seventh house of partners. We can see your emotional ambivalence about your husband’s influence; the Moon is in its fall in Scorpio, showing the high levels of frustration you’re feeling. However, the presence of the Moon in the seventh house shows to what degree your husband has control over your emotions. This is not a healthy situation, as I’m sure you’re aware.

Let us take a look at your job. It is shown by Saturn in Leo, ruler of your 10th house. Is it a good job? No; Saturn is in its detriment, so there is a real sense of pressure and even lack of reward. Saturn is in the fifth house of children, so we can see that your job is potentially afflicting your child. This is not unusual, as you obviously would not be able to spend as much time with your baby. If we place you, or rather Venus, just inside the 10th house, we can see how you would theoretically fare at your job. Venus in the 10th house in a night chart, which this is, does not have very much dignity in Capricorn. But it is not in terrible shape, either. It’s sort of a neutral situation without too much benefit or loss. If we place the Moon in the 10th house, showing how you would feel at your job, we do not get a warm and fuzzy feeling. Moon in Capricorn is in its detriment, so we get the sense that you would feel emotionally starved and generally unhappy.

If we place the Moon in the fourth house, it puts Moon in Cancer, which is the sign of its domicile. So there is a real sense that you would feel emotionally fulfilled staying at home. Venus is not terribly strong in Cancer either, so ultimately, it does not make a huge difference whether you go to work or stay at home, if we just look at the practical aspects of the situation. If we look at the emotional side of it, staying at home seems much more pleasant.

Perhaps a good middle ground would be to find another job: lawyers do have many options, and I am sure that you could find some kind of work that did not require you to work with people you don’t like or the kind of hours that you simply cannot sustain with a small baby.
