That's true, I suspect sect is more useful in natal chart reading and possibly/probably mundane astrology. One of my favorite examples of this is Prince Charles' chart. He has the Moon (full) on the MC of his chart in Taurus. The Moon is in her exaltation and triplicity as well as being in hayz (she is a noctural planet, it's a noctural chart, she's in a noctural sign (Taurus) and is nocturnally placed (on the side of the chart opp. the Sun). This indicates that he has a super powerful 'mum'. Besides the MC being a power point in the chart, it's also the mother's house cusp. Elizabeth Regina indeed!
regards

Dear Gary,

Yes, I have heard of this Joy of Sect (couldn't help myself there) you speak of. I do not quibble with the theory, but rather come back to my arch-theme on this blog: practical application.

In practice, Mars is equally strong in Aries and Scorpio - I don't know of anyone who makes that distinction when interpreting a horary chart, say - but will act differently. The Marsiness is the same, the way of expressing it is different in each sign.

Warmly,
Nina

Their rationale was that Mars 'prefers' Scorpio over Aries, because Mars is a nocturnal planet and Scorpio is a noctural sign (Aries is diurnal). For the same reason Saturn 'prefers' AQ as Saturn and Aquar. are both diurnal. Jupiter prefers Sag. (both diurnal) and Venus 'prefers' Taurus (both nocturnal). This is called sect. A planet totally in sect is in hayz; a very strong accidental dignity. Maybe Nina can write more about this at a later date.

Dear Yuzuru,

I see what you are trying to say, but must admit I am skeptical of the above assertion. I don't know of any sources that say Mars behaves better in its sign of Scorpio (cold) than in Aries (hot). It rules both signs, and behaves *differently* in each, not better in one than in the other. Using Dorothean trips seems slightly beside the point here, since we don't use them.

Warmly,
Nina

The fiery nature of mars really agrees with the nature of sagitarius, but this was not regarded as a good thing by the ancients, in reality that is why virgo was a dorothean triplicity of mars and sagitarius not: because mars, as a malefic, has a better behaviour in cold signs.

Dear Krysta,

Okay, you made me blush. I am way behind on my free questions (but will get through them - I promise!). "Vast knowledge?" I only wish.

I have been busy with my law practice - yes, even astrologers live on things other than old books and philosophy, and cannot make their cars run on trines and sextiles - but hope to get to a more regular blogging schedule as the month progresses.

Warmly,
Nina

Yeah! Nina's back! I like the above article as it shares more of the vast knowledge accumulated through study and makes it relevant to daily, monthly or yearly forcasts. It should increase the interest to beyond Horary which you excell at. So much better than sun sign only stuff or fluff that keeps one confused. Thanks for taking the time to describe the feeling inside the new location and duration as well. Yeah. I feel giddy.
Sadly and fittingly I much left to learn as I try to follow your free readings, so it is both a relief and frustration to have you back on line and blogging.
